What Does a Gallery Manager Do?

As a gallery manager, your job is to manage an art space and ensure there is a show for people to see as frequently as possible. As part of this, you meet with artists, discuss the needs of an exhibition, decide which artwork should go on display, and plan each event at the facility. This is a management position, but your actual responsibilities may vary by location. You may need to spend time working on a website, personally promoting the work of artists, and completing administrative duties.

How does a Gallery Manager typically collaborate with artists and curators to plan exhibitions?

Gallery Managers play a pivotal role in coordinating with both artists and curators to plan, schedule, and execute exhibitions. This often involves negotiating contracts, managing timelines, overseeing the logistics of artwork transportation and installation, and ensuring that all parties are aligned on the exhibition’s vision and objectives.
