Loudoun County, Virginia's Department of Planning and Zoning is recruiting a Zoning Enforcement Manager within the Zoning Enforcement division. The Zoning Enforcement Team strives to make sure properties within the county are in conformity with the Zoning Ordinances and specific Board-adopted chapters of the Virginia Maintenance Code. Job Summary
This position oversees and manages all aspects of assigned duties or programs within Zoning Enforcement, which include response to constituent complaints; investigation and resolution to issues related to alleged zoning violations, Virginia Maintenance Code violations, and numerous codified ordinances of the County; and conducting residential and commercial occupancy inspections for new construction. This position also works closely with the Office of the County Attorney by seeking legal advice and preparing cases for court action and has daily contact with Board of Supervisors and their staff as related to resolution of constituent issues.
This position is a part of the Department leadership team and collaborates on matters of organizational development, budget, and recruitment and will also support interdepartmental initiatives. Position requires considerable experience and ability to motivate and support professional staff, to find solutions to complex zoning enforcement questions, and to think strategically about operational and programmatic issues.?
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to negotiate sensitive issues, and a style that emphasizes diplomacy and the willingness to seek reasonable solutions. The position requires excellent writing, presentation, and facilitation skills; the ability to communicate effectively with staff, the public, and elected and appointed officials; and proficiency in mentoring and motivating professional staff.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field; six (6) years of related work experience in planning and/or zoning; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) certification is strongly preferred.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
This position requires a valid driver's license, driving record, credit, and criminal background checks. Relocation assistance is available to successful candidates who live more than 40 miles away.
