SUMMARY

The Tooling Manager is responsible for all aspects of tool acquisition, tracking, maintenance, servicing, calibration, re-certification, warranty claims, and returns. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Equipment, or another management personnel that the CEO of the Company may designate.

This position is located in Ankeny, IA and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. Overtime and weekend working hours may be required as needed. This position is expected to travel up to 20% as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and maintain an inventory list of tooling for all solar construction projects
  • Support site management tooling requests for new orders, warranty’s, repairs, returns, maintenance and disputes.
  • Supervise and manage activities of the tool room facilities, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Communicate and manage relationships with vendors, tool room managers, site leadership, and management within the Self Perform Construction Team.
  • Supports Production Site management to guarantee on time availability of tools to ensure continuous production and increase of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
  • Work with site management along with F&E in forcasting site needs based historical data, specific site needs, and input from project management and trades teams.
  • Maximize the use of all resources, including IT and database maintenance for tracking all tools, implementing a planned schedule of maintenance and repair activity to ensure a computerized log is kept on faults and service history of tools.
  • Develop and implement SOPs for the storage of tools to facilitate high standards for good housekeeping, health, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Manage tooling and test equipment certifications and records, facilitating new certifications when needed.
  • Manage a tracker of all safety certifications for tooling and equipment, particularly for electrical PPE.
  • Ensure all stock items, tool inserts and spares are available and organized
  • Oversee all work through the tool room efficiently and cost effectively and ensure that all target dates for tooling are met
  • Provide quotations from vendors for new tooling, modifications and repairs. Ensure tooling invoices are documented, proceessed, and paid.
  • Attend teams meetings and action/communicate instructions
  • Produce written reports and make presentations
  • Undertake continuous training and development
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the tool room products, materials and advise others of any impact
  • Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility
  • Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met by working to the overall plan, including management and reporting
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
  • Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiar with construction site work setting
  • Experience in solar construction is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with hand and power tools
  • Experience with inventory management, tracking and assignation
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
  • Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision.
