Summary of Position
The faculty position is an instructional position directly responsible to the Site Director, North Service Area and TDCJ. The instructor's duties and responsibilities are teaching students and performing a variety of administrative duties.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from a nationally, regionally, or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education in Law or Legal or Law-related field required.
  • Master's or Doctorate Degree in law is desired.
  • Three years of practical experience in a field related to law, legal systems, or regulatory environments for candidates with a bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of two years for those with a master's or doctorate degree.

Knowledge Skills and Ability
  • Must be punctual, dependable and have the ability to follow directions and proficiently complete tasks.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in the subject matter being taught.
  • Ability to communicate with students in a clear manner using both written and oral communication.
  • Ability to author tests and lesson plans.
  • Ability to give academic and vocation guidance to students as needed
  • Ability to use Blackboard as a teaching method.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrates skills in instruction and facilitation before large and small groups.
  • Demonstrates planning and organization skills.

Essential Functions
  • Teach courses according to syllabi and textbooks as approved by the department.
  • Advise students and assist them in obtaining their educational goals.
  • Adhere to assigned class time schedule.
  • Prepares daily lesson plans to ensure students are progressing through the required objectives of the courses.
  • Advise the North Service Area office of needed supplies, books equipment, and printing within 72 hours of needed time.
  • Maintain and submit certification rosters and final grade books by deadline set by registrar.
  • Provide statistical information to office as requested.
  • Keep supervisor informed of any student needs and problems.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all tests and student records.
  • Track attendance and post final grades.
  • Attend graduations and pre- and in-service trainings.
