Cobol Programmer

Location: Texas Remote

Contract: Longterm

Note: Looking for W2 candidates only.

Position Requirements

TDCJ is seeking an experienced COBOL Mainframe Developer with Micro Focus Enterprise experience for their team. This role is to work on modernizing legacy systems and migrating to a platform that requires proficiency in modern Integrated Development Environments (IDEs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • COBOL Development: Utilize your in-depth knowledge of COBOL programming on mainframes to maintain and enhance existing applications.
  • Micro Focus Enterprise Experience: Leverage your expertise in Micro Focus Enterprise (formerly known as Micro Focus COBOL) to develop, debug, and optimize COBOL code.
  • Modernization Projects: Lead and participate in initiatives aimed at modernizing legacy systems, including the migration to a platform that relies extensively on modern IDEs.
  • IDE Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in modern Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), to develop, test, and debug COBOL applications.
  • Workflow Adjustment: Be flexible and adaptable in adjusting workflows to meet evolving project needs and technology requirements.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system analysts, business analysts, and quality assurance professionals, to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure code quality and perform unit testing to identify and resolve defects.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues, ensuring the stability and performance of applications.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a COBOL Mainframe Developer with a strong focus on Micro Focus Enterprise.
  • Proficiency in using modern IDEs for COBOL development.
  • Experience with legacy system modernization and migration projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Micro Focus COBOL) is a plus.
