Job description

JOB SUMMARY: This position is an integral part of the Grant Aviation team. Our pilots are the face of the company and in addition to flight responsibilities, are responsible for positive customer interactions as a representative of the company in the communities we serve throughout Alaska: Bethel, Emmonak, Dillingham, King Salmon, Cold Bay, Dutch Harbor, Kenai and Anchorage, working on a rotating shift schedule, i.e. two (2) weeks-on two (2) weeks-off.
The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The Pilot in Command (PIC) has command of, and the responsibility for, the flight crew, passengers, cargo, the SAFE conduct of the flight, and provides guidance and coordinate the activities of every individual connected with all phases of the aircraft operation.
The PIC reports to the Chief Pilot for their certificated proficiency, competency, and currency and to the Director of Maintenance for the condition of the aircraft. Assumes the duties and responsibilities as follows:
Retains the final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft (FAR 91.3).
Completes the required training in our Training Program and successfully passes each of the required tests and flight checks in accordance with guidance in the Administrative chapter of our Training Program.
Maintains at least a current 2nd Class medical certificate as required by Grant Aviation, and notifies the Chief Pilot if a medical (physical or mental) condition may impair their ability to perform a flight.
Maintains either a current FAA ATP or Commercial certificate, with at least Single-Engine Land authorizations. Some pilots must maintain certification for multiengine and IFR authorizations.
Pilots assigned to duty in scheduled passenger-carrying flight operations must complete in-flight operating experience in each assigned make and model of aircraft in accordance with the Qualification curriculum segment of our Training Program.
Directs the activities of the Second-in-Command, if applicable, ensuring that flight crewmembers understand fully and completely what duties they are expected to perform.
Ensures the assigned aircraft is airworthy and all proper documents are on board the aircraft.
Makes decisions as necessary to the start, delay or cancellation of the flight, or deviation from a planned destination when operating conditions dictate.
Ensures the proper amount and grade of fuel is loaded on the aircraft.
Obtains briefing on the purpose of the flight, weather, operating, procedures and any special instructions, and plans flight assignments.
Prepares or supervises preparation of flight plan considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities and navigation aids.
Ensures that weather and aircraft performance conditions can be met appropriate to the FAR under which the flight is being conducted.
Ensures a flight plan or other authorized flight locating procedures is followed on each flight.
Ensures the aircraft weight and balance form/manifest is properly completed, and distributed.
Reports all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents pertaining to Grant Aviation, promptly to the Chief Pilot.
Ensures the VOR checks and other aircraft equipment checks are performed properly.
Ensures all passengers are appropriately briefed for each phase of flight.
Ensures emergency equipment such as life rafts, life vests, etc. as well as provisions for passenger comfort are aboard, and ensures all cargo is properly secured.
Ensures the preparation of flight logs, reporting of mechanical irregularities, and recording of maintenance, by maintenance personnel when maintenance is performed enroute.
Ensures all maintenance write-ups are passed to the maintenance personnel and that Flight Following is alerted to the current status of the aircraft.
Determines the applicability of the regulations to each flight.
Ensures that the copy of the General Operations Manual is aboard the aircraft.
Ensures the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight.
Operates aircraft at favorable altitudes taking into account turbulence, oxygen requirements and comfort of passengers during flight.
Maintains radio or telephone contact with the flight department management, often enough during the course of flight to ensure that operational messages are promptly conveyed between the flight crew and the base.
Requires the ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position efficiently and effectively.
Performs other duties as assigned.
