Purpose: Practicing safe food handling procedures, Meat Assistants attend to wrapping, displaying meat
and seafood products as well as maintaining product displays, all while providing a high level of
customer service.
Customer Service:
  • Assist customers with product questions in prompt, courteous & friendly manner, referring questions to other staff if necessary.
  • Answers questions accurately.
  • Developing and maintaining strong customer relations.

Product Knowledge:
  • Knowledgeable about most products. Continues to learn about new products.

Product Presentation and Quality:
  • Wrap, tag, and display fresh and frozen meat, poultry, and seafood.
  • Use correct tare weights and code dates on all products.
  • Perform daily culls and rewraps.
  • Display and maintain in-stock conditions with a fresh and appealing appearance throughout the department.
  • Fill and rotate the fresh meat case.
  • Maintain proper rotation of product and remove products that are unsaleable for any reason.
  • Clean the meat display cases.

Maintenance and Conditioning:
  • Help maintain clean, sanitized work areas in accordance with company standards and health department regulations.
  • Assist in keeping the meat processing room and walk-in cooler clean and orderly.

Safety:
  • Handle hazardous equipment carefully. Aware of presence of others when using such equipment. Equipment typically used includes the following:

Heat wrap machine
Electronic scales
Cutlery
Computer
Electric Stove
Rice Cooker
Food processor
  • Use proper lifting techniques. Wear appropriate shoes.
  • Mindful of potential hazards to customers and other employees and takes actions to correct hazards.

Teamwork:
  • Continue to work while greeting customers in a courteous manner.
  • Does own share of grungy tasks as requested by manager.
  • Looks at whole department when prioritizing tasks and completes these tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Always conscientious about co-workers and works with the team for department efficiency. Give verbal communication to next shift if necessary or written notes if urgent.
  • Comes to work on time.
  • Takes breaks when appropriate and comes back from break on time.
  • Follow the direction of the meat department manager.

Accountability:
  • Accepts responsibility for own actions. Exemplifies honesty, integrity and ethics.

Job Specific Functions:
  • Be aware of the company's key points of difference.
  • Limited receiving duties.
  • Limited elementary meat cutting.

Requirements
  • Experience in or willingness to learn safe operation of a heat-wrap machine.
  • Experience in or willingness to learn safe operation of a vacuum packaging machine.
  • Experience in or willingness to learn operation of electronic scales.
  • Ability to learn computer operation as it applies to the department.
  • Ability or willingness to learn identification of all cuts of meat by sight.
  • Excellent customer relation skills.
  • Basic knowledge of meat and seafood preparation.
  • Team player attitude.
  • Ability to lift 45-50 lbs. employing safe lifting procedures.
  • Desire and ability to maintain a clean, safe working area.
  • Following directions of the department manager.
