Job description

Summary of Position:

The Environmental Specialist oversees and enhances the company's HSE policies and programs. This role involves close coordination with various stakeholders, including Legal, HR, and Field Supervisors, to ensure comprehensive and consistent environmental practices across all operations. The Environmental Specialist will work with the field teams to manage environmental and HSE metrics and administer various environmental and safety-related systems and programs.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The following represents most of the position's duties but is not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory, environmental, and safety rules and standards, as well as corporate policies.

As an Environmental Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Reporting on investigations, including environmental site assessments and remediation projects.
  • Conducting soil samples, site inspections, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Being onsite to initiate and conclude projects.
  • Performing additional HSE-related duties as assigned.
  • Reviewing & signing RCRA manifest.
  • Ensuring that the spill notifications are documented.
  • Estimating size of spill(s): estimating area(s) impacted and its environmental sensitivity.
  • Providing classroom and field training for the field team.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science or a related field is required.
  • Must have 4-6 years of experience in the environmental industry or related industry.
  • A valid driver's license with an insurable driving record is required.
  • Must be able to travel regionally and locally as needed (up to 40% of the time).
  • Previous experience or education with site investigation, remediation, and sampling is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of TCEQ, RRC, NMED, and/or NMOCD programs is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Earth is required.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills.
  • Strict adherence to company mission statement and values.
  • Have interpersonal skills to communicate within all levels of the business, internally and externally.
  • Be highly motivated, customer-focused, and work cross-collaboratively within a team environment or independently.
  • Be able to prioritize work and make responsible decisions.
  • Live in Pecos or Orla, TX, within a 30-mile radius from Pecos, TX, or a 60-mile radius from Orla, TX-preferably between Midland, TX, and Carlsbad, NM.
    • Company-paid housing will be provided during your working shift.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • Operates in a field and office environment, depending on schedule and projects.
    • Due to the diversity of scheduled and non-scheduled remediation, environmental conditions vary significantly depending on the project.
  • Office environment:
    • Professional and/or business casual.
  • Field environment:
    • May be subject to extreme environments such as heat, cold, etc.
    • The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to:
      • Standing, walking, or sitting for prolonged periods.
      • Walking on uneven and vegetated terrain; sampling activities such as hand auguring for soil sample collection.
      • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
      • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and must be able to carry a self-contained breathing apparatus if needed. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
