Description
Burns & McDonnell's Transportation Global Practice serves departments of transportation, cities, counties, railroads, ports, and private industry across the country. Our innovative and cost-effective solutions help improve mobility and safety of people and goods on our nation's roads, highways, trails, bridges and rail systems. We also provide strategic consulting services to help our clients communicate their vision and secure the funding and support that are critical to their success. Our comprehensive services include design, design-build, construction management, environmental planning, feasibility studies, inspection, ITS, MS4 compliance assistance, permitting, program management, right-of-way acquisition, signaling & lighting, stakeholder engagement, storm water/drainage design, strategic consulting, sustainable design, traffic analysis, transportation enhancement, and utility coordination and relocation.
Reside as a Rail Site Development Engineer for our Rail Team. Should be a highly driven employee who has excellent technical skills to assist on the rail site development design aspects as it relates to rail industrial development projects of all sizes.
Responsibilities:
  • Will direct and coordinate work associated with the study and/or design of civil site development infrastructure systems, including but not limited to rail and stormwater.
  • Coordination of activities of several disciplines may be required for projects of significant or moderate scope, or a combination of smaller projects.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.
  • Assists with supervision of staff and task management on major projects.
  • Regularly coordinates with design team members, clients, sub-consultants, utility companies or other project stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Added Responsibilities:
  • Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in the site civil design and analysis as it relates to rail projects.
  • Performs tasks requiring applications of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Standard design of civil project work.
  • Assist task leaders and project managers with various project duties.
  • Serve as a team member on multi-disciplined projects.
  • Works with senior staff on technical aspects of a project.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 7 years civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. Required or
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. and 7 years civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. Required or
  • Master Degree in Civil Engineering and 6 years civil engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred. Required
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred
