Job Description
The Process Engineer is a developmental position working in a variety of areas throughout the Pulp, Paper and Coating areas. The individual in this role will work within the Process Engineering team to continuously support and improve health and safety performance, environmental compliance, production goals, quality metrics, and operating cost. These activities will be require working with people, processes and equipment throughout the facility, and will use a variety of tools including Lean Manufacturing and 6S Principles.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collect, analyze and use operational data to help drive process improvements.
  • Identify and evaluate the feasibility of new technological developments and best practices.
  • Coordinate trials and lead improvement projects to enhance quality, improve yields, reduce costs and improve productivity.
  • Track performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in validating product specifications are aligned with operational process capability.
  • Assist with development and improvement of operational practices and SOP's using sound engineering principles.
  • Serve on committees, task forces and teams as assigned.
  • Recommend solutions for application of best practices in operations inclusive of recommending, justifying, and supporting Capital Budget projects.
  • Assume weekend call out responsibilities on a scheduled, rotational basis.

Qualifications
  • B.S in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science/Engineering is preferred. Other technical disciplines will be considered with relevant experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills, a passion to drive improvement, a bias for action and a highly motivated team player.
  • An ability to work with both salaried and hourly operations and maintenance staff.
  • An ability to learn and adapt to changing operational situations.
  • An ability to work in an operating environment that includes heat, humidity, noise and lab and process chemicals.
  • Confident, growth oriented professional ready to accept challenging responsibilities with a positive attitude.
  • Experience with Lean principles/six sigma methods is a plus.
