Job description

Talon Hiring Solutions has a client in the Appleton, WI area that is looking for a Senior Pulp and Paper Process Engineer. Our client provides full-service engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm) services to industrial process manufacturers that operate in pulp & paper, chemical, CPG, F&B, power and heavy industrial market markets across the nation.

What you will do:

  • Delivering mechanical engineering expertise to pulp and paper clients, supporting projects ranging from system assessments to full-scale capital upgrades
  • Conducting on-site evaluations of mill equipment, including pulping systems, screening, refining, and papermachine components, to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Designing, evaluating, and integrating mechanical subsystems across the papermaking process, including pulping, screening, refining, cleaning, stock preparation, forming, pressing, drying, and finishing operations
  • Developing engineering designs, specifications, and technical documentation for equipment modifications, replacements, and new installations
  • Providing actionable recommendations to enhance reliability and reduce downtime
  • Supporting project execution by coordinating with vendors, contractors, and client teams throughout design, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning
  • Analyzing process and equipment data to optimize system performance, energy efficiency, and throughput
  • Preparing clear, client-ready reports, drawings, and presentations that communicate findings, recommendations, and project progress
  • Ensuring all engineering work aligns with industry standards, safety requirements, and client expectations
  • Serving as a trusted technical advisor to clients, helping them plan long-term asset strategies and continuous improvement initiatives

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Experience (+5 years) in the pulp and paper industry, particularly with papermachine systems, pulping operations, or mill mechanical equipment
  • Strong understanding of rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, steam systems, and industrial utilities
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and equipment specifications
  • Proficiency with engineering analysis tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FEA tools, reliability analysis software)
  • Demonstrated problemsolving skills with a handson approach to troubleshooting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with crossfunctional teams in a mill or industrial environment
  • The ability to manage projects, including coordinating timelines, budgets, and resources.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Experience in an Engineering or Construction industry experience.
  • Detailed oriented with analytical skills.
