Project Manager – OSP Fiber Construction (Heavy Civil / Underground / Drilling Focus) Job Overview

The Opportunity

Cherokee Fiber & Associates Inc. is seeking a hands-on Project Manager with strong Outside Plant (OSP) fiber-optic construction experience to lead large-scale infrastructure builds. This role is focused on heavy civil fiber work (underground, directional drilling, trenching, and placement)—not telecom tower work.
You will oversee projects from start to finish, ensuring operational efficiency, field coordination, and successful delivery across multiple job sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full project lifecycle from planning through closeout and invoicing

  • Oversee OSP fiber construction projects, including underground, trenching, and directional drilling operations

  • Coordinate field crews, foremen, and drilling teams to ensure productivity and alignment

  • Lead project scheduling, logistics, and material management

  • Review and maintain mapping, redlines, and as-builts for accuracy and compliance

  • Interpret and ensure adherence to construction plans, codes, and specifications

  • Monitor daily job site progress, safety compliance, and quality standards

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams

  • Identify and resolve field issues proactively to keep projects on track

Required Qualifications 
  • 3+ years of experience as a Project Manager or Foreman in OSP fiber-optic construction

  • Proven experience with underground fiber builds (trenching, boring, directional drilling)

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Mapping and redlining/as-builts

    • As-code/compliance interpretation

    • Material tracking and project logistics

  • Strong computer skills (project tracking, documentation, reporting)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead crews and manage field operations

  • Experience working in fast-paced, multi-project environments

Preferred Qualifications 
  • Extensive experience in heavy civil or utility construction

  • Background managing government or federal infrastructure projects

  • Experience coordinating drilling operations and subcontractors

  • Technical certifications in fiber optics or utility construction
