How much do full time non atp pilot jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 15, 2026, the average yearly pay for full time non atp pilot in the United States is $130,916.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $100,000.00 and $155,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Non ATP Pilot, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Non ATP Pilot, you generally need a commercial pilot license (CPL), strong aeronautical knowledge, and solid flight experience. Familiarity with avionics systems, flight planning software, and navigation tools is essential, along with maintaining current FAA medical certification. Excellent situational awareness, decision-making, and communication skills help set outstanding pilots apart. These competencies are crucial to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and effective operation in diverse flying environments.

What is a Full Time Non ATP Pilot?

A Full Time Non ATP Pilot is a professional pilot who works full-time but does not hold an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, which is the highest level of pilot certification in the United States. These pilots typically hold a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and may work in roles such as flight instructors, charter pilots, or corporate pilots, but they are not qualified to act as pilot-in-command of an airliner. Non ATP pilots may gain experience and flight hours toward obtaining their ATP certificate in the future. Their responsibilities and flying privileges are determined by the type of certificate they hold and the regulations of their employer.

What are some typical career progression paths for full-time non-ATP pilots in the aviation industry?

Full-time non-ATP pilots often start in entry-level positions such as flight instructors, banner tow pilots, or charter pilots for small operators. With experience and additional flight hours, they may advance to roles such as corporate pilot, regional airline first officer, or specialized operations like aerial survey or medevac. Many pilots use these positions to build experience toward obtaining their Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, which opens doors to major airline and advanced corporate aviation roles. Career growth usually involves gaining type ratings, expanding to more complex aircraft, and taking on increased responsibilities within flight departments.

What is the difference between Full Time Non Atp Pilot vs Part 135 Pilot?
