Job description

College Football Reporter
Application Deadline: 5 October 2026
Department: Editorial
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: New York, New York
Compensation: $75,000 - $135,000 / year
Description
Front Office Sports is seeking a dynamic reporter to lead our coverage of the booming business of college football.
College football is now the clear No. 2 sport in the United States, behind only the NFL. It is also chaotic and in constant flux, without clear rules, leadership, or limits. It's a target-rich environment for a hungry reporter looking to break news, tell compelling stories, and build their source rolodex.
The ideal candidate is as comfortable appearing on camera and onstage at our live events as they are filing a public records request or cold-calling sources.
This is largely a writing and reporting role for a rising-star reporter who is comfortable with the demands and irregular schedule of a beat and knows how to balance a workload of quick-turn breaking stories and industry-leading enterprise stories.
Key Responsibilities
  • Break impactful news about the business of college football
  • Balance daily news demands with working on longer-term enterprise stories
  • Work closely with editors, reporters, and producers in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Deliver clean, clear, prompt copy
  • Participate in multimedia storytelling, including on-camera opportunities at FOS
  • Regularly report from games, press conferences, and other College Sports events across the country
  • Book guests and conduct onstage interviews at FOS live events
  • Constantly cultivate and grow your source rolodex
  • Share your work across social media and strive to build and drive audience to personal and company channels
  • Own your beat. That encompasses:
    • A steady flow of idea generation for stories of all shapes and sizes
    • Delivering for readers on major storylines in your world
    • Profiling interesting and influential industry figures, from new players to key members of the establishment
    • Actively using social media to be a leading voice on the beat
    • Closely monitoring the leagues and industries you cover
    • Traveling to games or events or gatherings in your beat

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • 5+ years of reporting experience, including some in college sports
  • Experience and comfort speaking on camera
  • A self-starter capable of taking initiative and finding your own stories
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Handles pressure effectively and exhibits a flexible, positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multitask
  • Ability to anticipate coverage needs and execute quickly

Perks & Benefits
  • Generous PTO policy to use as you please, plus sick time and company holidays
  • Employer-sponsored health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision
  • An annual professional development stipend and endless development opportunities at a growing startup
  • Plan for your future with our 401(k) plan, complemented by a 3% company match. We believe in supporting your long-term financial goals
  • Thrive in a dynamic environment with endless development opportunities at our growing startup
