Introduction
Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is seeking an enthusiastic, imaginative, community-minded person to join our team as a Youth Services Librarian at Chinn Park Library in Woodbridge, VA. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity, flexibility, a collaborative attitude, and excellent customer service skills. This role is ideal for a librarian who wants to combine their love of public service with their passion for creating quality programming for children, teens, and families.
Currently, Chinn Park is undergoing a landmark, large-scale renovation and you will be a vital part of the leadership team that re-introduces the community to everything a modern Chinn Park has to offer. While this position is based at the Chinn Park Library, the selected candidate may be required to work at alternative county library locations during the upcoming building renovation.

About This Role:
  • Both independently and in collaboration with other Youth Services staff, plan, implement, and assist with library programming, including story times, programs, tours, and outreach for youth of all ages and their families.
  • Regularly work at the integrated service desk and provide patrons with circulation, reader's advisory, reference, and technology assistance. Assist patrons of all ages with information and circulation inquiries.
  • Maintain children's and young adult collections through weeding and rebalancing.
  • Create displays, book lists, flyers, posters and other handouts to promote the library's physical collection, online resources, and youth programming.
  • Represent Prince William Public Libraries at outreach events.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise Teen Volunteers for Summer Reading Program and Teen Advisory Group.
  • May serve as the person in charge.

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in library or information science
Preferences:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a public library environment, school library, or bookstore.
  • Experience in planning, promoting, implementing, and assisting with successful youth programs in a library setting or through a community-based organization.
  • Experience providing circulation, information, and readers' advisory assistance to patrons of all ages.
  • Experience assisting patrons with technology, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, tablets, and e-readers.
  • Experience with collection maintenance practices, including weeding, merchandising, and rebalancing floating collections.

Special Requirements:
The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time, exempt 37.5 hours per week position. Hours are scheduled Monday - Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday - Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The schedule includes days, one evening per week, and rotating weekends as assigned. Scheduling flexibility is imperative. Schedule may vary depending on the needs of the library.
Starting Salary Range:
$65,910.00 - $79,408.88 / year
