JOB SUMMARY
The Sterile Processing Technician II is a certified professional responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and safe handling of medical instruments, supplies, and equipment. This individual will apply their expertise to ensure efficient performance and compliance with operational standards, contributing to the overall success of the department. Success in this position requires a high level of technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety and quality standards.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Education
    High School Diploma or equivalent 
     
  • Experience
    18 months of healthcare experience 
     
  • Licenses and Certifications
    Must hold a Technical Certification upon hire and a Scope, Specialty, or Leadership Certification within 12 months of hire 
    (CRCST) CRCST with Healthcare Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD equivalent Upon Hire and 
    (CER) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor with Healthcare Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD equivalent within 1 Year or 
    (CIS) CERTIFIED INSTRUMENT SPECIALST with Healthcare Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD equivalent within 1 Year or 
    (CHL) CERTIFIED HEALTHCARE LEADER with Healthcare Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD equivalent within 1 Year 
     


JOB DUTIES

  • Proven understanding of departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sterile processing tasks and safety protocols.
  • Proven ability to work in all areas within department which includes but not limited to decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case pick, and high level disinfection.
  • Unload and prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment for decontamination following departmental procedures and manufacturers instructions for use Safely handles instruments, removing damaged or malfunctioning items and reporting issues to supervisor.
  • Select proper sterilization methods for different items, ensuring correct assembly, packaging, and preparation
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records, label sterilized items, and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Proven ability to operate various pieces of equipment (Washer, Ultrasonic, Sterilizer)
  • Participate in biological monitoring/testing, reporting positive results, and escalating issues to leadership
