Position Summary

The Mutuels/Sportsbook Cashier processes wagers for horse racing and sporting events with accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism. This role is responsible for entering betting information, issuing tickets, paying winning wagers, balancing cash banks, and providing superior guest service. While the schedule varies, approximately 90% of time will be spent working in mutuels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately write, verify, and issue payments for sports and horse racing wagers in compliance with company policies, state regulations, and federal gaming statutes.

  • Follow all procedures for the sale and payout of tickets.

  • Educate guests on wagering rules, procedures, betting lines, and odds.

  • Maintain and balance a cash bank throughout the shift, reconciling transactions at shift end.

  • Maintain work area cleanliness and ensure adequate inventory of supplies.

  • Address guest questions, concerns, or complaints, escalating as needed.

  • Maintain knowledge of sporting and horse racing events, property promotions, and offerings.

  • Follow company safety standards and prioritize workplace safety.

  • Stay current on industry developments, resources, and best practices through ongoing training.

  • Present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

  • Provide excellent customer service and communication in all guest interactions.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Strong guest service and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Preferred:

  • Experience as a Sportsbook or Mutuels Writer/Teller

  • One (1) year of guest service and cash/credit card processing experience

  • Bilingual skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing and movement throughout the work area

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Regular verbal communication with guests and team members

  • Exposure to secondhand smoke, loud noise, and standard gaming environment conditions

  • Occasional exposure to weather extremes when moving between locations

Varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Example schedule:
