Job Summary
The Assistant Coach, Men's Golf, assists the Director of Golf in all phases of the NCAA Division I men's golf program, including coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, team operations, and compliance. This position supports the academic, athletic, and professional development of student-athletes while promoting competitive excellence and ensuring adherence to NCAA, Southland Conference, and Lamar University policies and regulations.
Essential Job Functions
Coaching and Student-Athlete Development:
  • Assist with instruction of student-athletes in all aspects of golf, including swing technique, short game, putting, and course management.
  • Support planning and execution of practices, qualifying sessions, and tournament preparation.
  • Provide individual feedback and performance analysis to enhance skill development.
  • Assist during competitions with strategy, course preparation, and on-course support.
  • Promote academic success by monitoring progress and coordinating with academic support staff.
  • Mentor student-athletes in personal development, leadership, time management, team culture, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Recruiting and Program Development:
  • Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes who meet NCAA and institutional requirements.
  • Maintain communication with recruits, families, and coaches.
  • Coordinate recruiting visits, including campus tours and team interactions.
  • Ensure all recruiting activities comply with NCAA and Southland Conference regulations.

Team Operations and Administration:
  • Assist with team travel arrangements, including transportation, lodging, and meals.
  • Support scheduling of tournaments and practice rounds.
  • Help manage equipment, uniforms, and practice facilities.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as correspondence, reports, scheduling, and other program operations.

Compliance and Rules Education:
  • Complete required compliance documentation accurately and on time.
  • Participate in rules education and compliance training.
  • Adhere to and support compliance with NCAA, Southland Conference, and Lamar University rules and regulations.

Community Engagement and Program Support:
  • Represent the men's golf program professionally at university and community events.
  • Assist with youth clinics, camps, and outreach efforts.
  • Support alumni engagement and fundraising initiatives as assigned.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Collegiate playing experience in golf or coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and recruiting practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, and travel extensively.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Coaching or graduate assistant experience in collegiate golf.
  • Experience recruiting at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Familiarity with the Southland Conference or regional recruiting areas.
  • Experience using golf training and performance technology.
