Job Description

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is DSS's technology services organization. ITS mission is to support the daily, emergent, and long-term needs of both agencies. ITS creates and enhances the technology infrastructure and computer applications that support HRA and DHS and develops applications, including a variety of client eligibility and recertification systems, case management systems, housing systems, employment/work engagement services, revenue producing computer matches, claiming systems, and personnel systems.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is recruiting for one (1) IT Infrastructure Engineer, to function as Genetec Security Engineer, who will;
- Oversee the design, architecture, deployment, and lifecycle management of the Genetec Security Center platform, including Omnicast (video management) and Synergis (access control).
- Manage a large-scale, multi-site hybrid environment consisting of Directory, Archiver, and Failover servers, cloud access control, wired IP cameras, and advanced applications such as biometrics, body cameras (BWC), and video analytics.
- Lead large-scale infrastructure projects, act as a subject matter expert (SME), mentor junior staff, and ensure that the security infrastructure is reliable, resilient, and prepared for future AI- and cloud-based solution rollouts.
- Install, configure, and maintain Genetec Directory, Archiver, and Failover servers, manage Synergis cloud access control systems, wired IP cameras, and Genetec storage infrastructure; perform proactive monitoring, issue resolution, disaster recovery planning, and high-availability support; implement video retention strategies, encryption, watermarking, and mobile access features.
- Lead and oversee large-scale security infrastructure projects, from design to implementation.
- Coordinate with contractors, integrators, and internal IT, database, and facilities teams and provide mentorship, coaching, and training to junior Genetec administrators, building a skilled support team.
- Ensure system compliance with agency and cybersecurity standards, including scheduled patching and updates; create and maintain detailed system diagrams, operational documentation, and reporting dashboards and provide audit logs, usage reports, and system performance reviews to leadership and oversight agencies.
- Be responsible for architect and design enterprise-wide federated Genetec Security Center deployments, including high-availability configurations, SQL mirroring, and cybersecurity hardening; partner with the division lead to support long-term CCTV strategy development, including benchmark analysis, value modeling, and transformation planning; guide the organization toward CCTV Security-as-a-Service, ensuring scalability and sustainability.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering or a related field and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, complex IT infrastructure engineering; or,
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, complex IT infrastructure engineering; or,
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
