Description
Responsible to assist with the management of a competitive NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving program; assists with conditioning, practices, recruiting, travel arrangements, and student managers. There are two positions: one position coaches primarily swimmers; the other position coaches primarily divers.
Examples of Duties
In conjunction with the Head Coach, plans and executes a successful program that would include duties such as: conducting regular team practice sessions; coaching the student athletes, evaluating athletes performance in practice and competition; monitoring the conditioning and training of student athletes, advises and counsels student athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and academics.
Arranges and conducts recruiting functions including off- and on-campus visits, evaluations and contacts of prospective student-athletes.
Ensures that necessary athletic equipment and gear is available and in proper condition for scheduled practices and competition and makes recommendation for repairs or replacement, as necessary. Works with department's liaison to apparel company to order appropriate gear/uniforms.
Performs administrative tasks such as scheduling, travel arrangements, budget preparation and monitoring, and maintaining statistics. Attends coaches' preparatory meetings and implements strategies resulting from these meetings.
Full travel responsibilities for in-and-out of sport season.
Assist with game management including setup, meet management and breakdown as needed.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to act with honesty and sportsmanship at all times so that intercollegiate athletics as a whole, the university and they as individuals, represent the honor and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized high standards associated with wholesome competitive sports.
Solid knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
Ability to handle highly confidential material and maintain strict confidence.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures and have knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the swimming and diving program.
Ability to successfully recruit and retain student athletes.
Skilled in exemplary customer service, including dealing effectively with the students, faculty, staff, and general public both in person and over the telephone.
Ability to maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers and possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the needs of all prospective as well as current students.
Excellent writing skills and the demonstrated ability to develop written reports and action plans. Good organizational, oral and recruiting skills.
Ability to work effectively, decisively and flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to identify problems and to propose feasible solutions.
Strong organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn Microsoft Office, JumpForward, Meet Manager and self-motivated to stay current with technologies.
Ability to lead and guide student-athletes in area of specialty.
Ability to travel with the team and monitors the conduct of student athletes.
Ability to accept and provide effective supervision, assignments, change and correction.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's degree is required; Master's Preferred.
Prior coaching experience at the college or club sports level or as a collegiate athlete.
First Aid, CPR, AED Required (or willingness to obtain). Lifeguarding Certification required.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
