Position Summary:
As an R&D Food Scientist, you'll lead the development and testing of innovative food products, ensuring they meet quality and safety standards. This hands-on role supports product innovation, quality control, and cross-functional teams to drive excellence from concept to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development & Innovation:
โ€ข Design, formulate, and test new products from concept through launch
โ€ข Explore new ingredients, technologies, and trends
โ€ข Modify existing formulations for improved quality and consistency
โ€ข Support plant trials and troubleshoot process challenges
Testing & Quality:
โ€ข Conduct microbiological, physical, chemical, and sensory testing
โ€ข Monitor production adherence to R&D specs
โ€ข Document testing processes and maintain lab cleanliness and inventory
Cross-Functional Support:
โ€ข Collaborate with Quality and Supply Chain teams
โ€ข Provide technical support on ingredients and finished goods
โ€ข Create and manage product specifications and nutritional labeling
โ€ข Lead sensory panels and summarize feedback
Food Safety & Compliance:
โ€ข Ensure all R&D activities align with GMP and food safety standards
โ€ข Collaborate on supplier and packaging approvals
โ€ข Assist with corrective actions and root cause analysis
โ€ข Participate in the Food Safety Team
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field
โ€ข 1-3 years of experience in food manufacturing or lab work (dairy experience is a plus)
โ€ข Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
โ€ข Experience with nutritional labeling (TraceGains NutriCalc is a plus)
โ€ข PCQI or HACCP certification preferred
Skills:
โ€ข Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
โ€ข Effective communication and documentation skills
โ€ข Ability to interpret lab results and apply findings
โ€ข Able to manage multiple projects and priorities
Physical Requirements:
โ€ข Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work in varying temperature environments
โ€ข Work occurs in office, lab, warehouse, cooler, and production floor
โ€ข Travel required between Plymouth R&D center and Elk River production facility
