Job description

This is a full time 40 hour a week position, with one required weekend day. Hours are between 7:00am-5:30pm. Applicants proficient in Spanish are encouraged to apply!

    THE POSITION:

    We have an exciting opportunity at our Methuen Animal Care and Adoption Center for an Animal Welfare Specialist with specialized and advanced equine and farm animal experience to work at our unique adoption center location at Nevins Farm.  The vision of the MSPCA Animal Protection Division is to proactively address the underlying issues that put animals at risk. We value our connections to communities and organizations, and serve as a resource to protect the largest number of animals possible. Animal Welfare Specialists (AWS) are at the forefront of the MSPCA's mission, working directly with people and their pets to effect positive change in our community. Some job responsibilities include:

    • Working hands-on with several species of animals, including companion, equine and farm animals, feeding, cleaning and disinfecting animal living spaces, providing enrichment activities, exercising, medication administration, etc.
    • Facilitating adoptions by matchmaking animals with prospective adopters using a conversation-based approach with a goal of identifying the best possible outcome for the person and the animal.
    • Assisting in the surrender of an animal in an empathetic and compassionate manner that is free from judgment.

        The hourly pay rate will be determined based on skill level and experience with pay rates ranging from $22.00 - $26.00 per hour.  

        APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

        We are looking for applicants with at least one year of experience in a customer service/client care position, as well as, at least 2 years of previous work or volunteer experience with farm and/or equine animals. Advanced horsemanship skills required. Applicants should also demonstrate excellent judgment, interpersonal skills and an eagerness to support the human-animal bond.
