Hope Valley Country Club, located in Durham, North Carolina, and managed by Bobby Jones Links, is hiring for a Sous Chef. Founded in 1926, Hope Valley is an elite private club featuring a classic Donald Ross designed golf course, state-of-the-art tennis facility, resort-style pool complex, and a spacious, welcoming clubhouse offering its members first-class recreation, dining, and programming. Hope Valley is ideally situated in the heart of one of Southeast's most vibrant, exciting areas.
Primary Responsibilities of the Sous Chef at Hope Valley Country Club include:
Leadership & Team Culture
  • Help lead daily kitchen operations alongside the Executive Chef
  • Inspire, train, and mentor culinary team members
  • Create a positive, high-energy, professional kitchen environment
  • Lead by example during service and events
  • Help build a culture where people enjoy coming to work

Culinary Execution
  • Execute high-level ร  la carte dining and banquet events
  • Support weddings, member events, golf tournaments, wine dinners, and holiday experiences
  • Ensure every plate leaving the kitchen reflects HVCC standards
  • Maintain consistency, organization, cleanliness, and attention to detail

Creativity & Collaboration
  • Collaborate on seasonal menus, features, and event offerings
  • Bring fresh ideas and creativity to the culinary program
  • Work closely with front-of-house leadership to elevate the member experience

Operations
  • Support inventory, ordering, and cost control
  • Maintain sanitation and food safety standards
  • Assist with scheduling and labor management
  • Step confidently into leadership when needed

Experience We're Looking For
  • 3-5+ years of culinary experience
  • Previous sous chef or leadership experience preferred
  • Banquet and high-volume event experience is a huge plus
  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations and food safety
  • Country club, resort, or upscale dining experience preferred - but attitude and culture fit matter just as much

The Schedule
Hospitality is not a typical 9-5, and neither are we. This role includes:
