Job description

Position: Health Psychologist
Location: SBH Health System - Bronx, NY

SBH Health System is seeking a Health Psychologist to join our Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison (C-L) team. The psychologist will provide comprehensive mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention services for adult and child patients requiring psychiatric evaluation and support during hospitalization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and crisis interventions for hospitalized patients.
  • Provide treatment and assessment on the Medical Psychiatric Unit (MPU), which serves patients with both acute psychiatric and medical needs.
  • Collaborate with the C-L team and serve as a liaison for transfers to inpatient psychiatry units and referrals from outside hospitals.
  • Supervise psychology externs, including oversight of psychological testing and clinical work.
  • Deliver lectures and seminars on psychotherapy and related topics to medical students, psychiatry residents, and psychology externs.
  • Provide staff debriefings following critical incidents across the hospital.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational or therapeutic groups for patients with chronic or high-risk medical conditions.
  • Participate in departmental committees and other initiatives as assigned by the Chair of Psychiatry.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical, Counseling, or Health Psychology.
  • New York State Psychology License.
  • Experience in inpatient psychiatric care required.
  • Prior experience working with a Consultation-Liaison team strongly preferred.
  • Full-time, in-person position
