Job description

The Company
We are Alloy Therapeutics—a biotechnology ecosystem company empowering the global scientific community to make better medicines together. Through a community of partners, we democratize access to pre-competitive tools, technologies, services, and company creation capabilities that are foundational for discovering and developing therapeutic biologics. The company facilitates affordable, non-exclusive access to the entire drug discovery community from academic scientists, small and medium biotech, to the largest biopharma. At Alloy, we believe our industry should compete on getting the best drugs to patients as quickly as possible, not exclusive access to the best platforms. As a reflection of our relentless commitment to the scientific community, we reinvest 100% of our revenue in innovation and access to innovation. MAY THE BEST DRUG WIN.
Alloy is headquartered in Waltham, MA with additional labs in Cambridge, UK; Basel, Switzerland, and Athens, GA. Successful members thrive in our shared culture of accountability, deliberate trust, and open communication. As a team we aspire to work together to exceed expectations and collectively contribute across the global organization to always maintain our nimble, startup culture.
This is an on-site and full-time position in Waltham, MA. At Alloy, we have an ethos of “Mentorship-By-Apprenticeship” in all of our positions.  We strive to have workers in the office when needed to interact organically and face-to-face.  Of course, as a lab-based operation, our cells and animals grow 7 days a week, 365 days per year.  We respect and value our colleagues for their hard work that requires them to be in the lab every day.  We ask our people who have more flexible accommodations, like this position, to appreciate their colleagues who have less flexibility.  We are all one team!

The Team
Alloy’s In Vitro Pharmacology team collaborates with drug discovery partners to conduct in vitro studies on therapeutic candidates across diverse modalities. Our team delivers comprehensive functional screening and characterization of biologics to support discovery and selection of lead candidates. Primary modalities are monoclonal, multispecific, and TCR-mimic antibodies, but also include cell therapies and genetic medicines. As Alloy Tx enters its next phase of growth, we are expanding our capabilities to include mechanistic studies that enhance preclinical development and further advance our translational research efforts.

The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist for in vitro screening and pre-clinical development to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. In this role, you will support execution of in vitro functional cell-based assays to evaluate the potency, mechanism of action, and pharmacological properties of biologic therapeutics. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, a commitment to scientific excellence, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic environment. You will report to the Associate Director, In Vitro Pharmacology and will work collaboratively in a matrixed environment to drive biologics discovery while supporting rapid decision-making in a fast-moving biotech setting.
How You’ll Drive Impact
  • Execute: Perform in vitro characterization and functional assays to screen drug candidate molecules.
  • Develop: Optimize experimental workflows for more efficient and effective data generation.
  • Deliver: Support screening campaigns to meet experimental timelines for monoclonal and multispecific antibodies, as well as TCR-mimic antibodies.
  • Collaborate: Work closely across multi-disciplinary teams in biologics discovery programs spanning all Alloy sites. Engage with an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
  • Communicate: Clearly convey scientific concepts, experimental results, and interpretations to internal and external stakeholders.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Design, optimize and execute cell-based assays (e.g. cell binding and/or blocking assays, functional assays, etc.) using immortalized cell lines, primary cells, and other disease-relevant cellular systems.
  • Maintain cell lines in culture using aseptic techniques.
  • Process human leukopaks, isolate and characterize human PBMCs.
  • Support day-to-day lab and experimental workflows.
  • Effectively collaborate across divisional or departmental teams and with external partners to drive projects forward and obtain test materials and reagents.
  • Present experimental data and findings during team and departmental meetings.
  • Ensure timely and successful execution of project activities in alignment with project plans and priorities.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records in compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain laboratory organization and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Qualifications
  • B.S. and M.S. in Cell or Molecular Biology, or a related field, with 2-4 years of relevant industry experience.
  • A strong understanding of immunology and extensive hands-on laboratory experience are essential.
  • Significant cell culture and flow cytometry experience required.
  • Experience with antibody-based therapeutics is preferred.
  • Proficient at fundamental cell and molecular biology assays (ELISA/MSD, AlphaLISA, and other methods).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize instrumentation.
  • Direct experience with immune cell-based assays a plus.
  • Direct experience handling human blood, leukopak processing, and PBMC isolations a plus.
  • Hands on experience isolating and/or expanding primary immune cell subsets a plus.
  • Excellent organization, clear communication and teamwork abilities in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Ability to effectively multitask and deliver results within project-driven timelines.
  • Thrives working on a team and collaborating with others to achieve project goals.
  • Enjoys a dynamic and exciting work environment.
  • Detail oriented, with rigorous scientific thinking and a passion for drug discovery to improve patients’ lives.
Taking Care of Our People
We support the individuality of what people need to do outside of work to empower them to do their best at work. While you focus on making better medicine together, we focus on programs and benefits that support a diverse and growing team. Whether you’re single, in a growing family, or nearing retirement, Alloy offers a variety of comprehensive and competitive benefits starting from day one.
Compensation
  • Competitive base and equity compensation commensurate with level of experience and independence
  • 401(k) company match
Health & Family
  • Generous personal and family medical, dental and vision benefits with 100% of premiums and deductibles covered
  • Company-paid disability (STD, LTD) and life insurance
  • Paid parental leave
  • Family planning support up to $45,000 (e.g., IVF/PGT, adoption, surrogacy, egg retrieval)
Unique Perks
  • Unlimited PTO (paid time off) and flexible schedules
  • Annual stipend for continuing education with commitment to your career through individualized professional development plan
  • Wellness and Extensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP) including resources for mental wellness

Pay Transparency
At Alloy Therapeutics, we believe in fostering trust and open communication. For this role, the estimated range is $94,000 - $110,000, with the final offer based on factors like your experience, skills, and alignment with our needs.

Additionally, this role is eligible for equity compensation, reflecting our commitment to shared success as we work together to make better medicines.

We are proud to offer competitive compensation and benefits, aiming to support our team’s professional and personal well-being. If you have any questions about pay or benefits, we’re here to help.
