How much do full time app store optimization jobs pay per hour?

As of Sep 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for full time app store optimization in the United States is $52.64, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $42.31 and $60.58 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is app store optimization (ASO) and why is it important?

App Store Optimization (ASO) is the process of improving the visibility and ranking of a mobile app in app stores like Apple's App Store and Google Play. By optimizing elements such as the app title, keywords, description, visuals, and reviews, ASO helps increase app downloads and organic growth. It is crucial because a well-optimized app is more likely to be discovered by potential users, leading to higher download rates and better user engagement. Consistent ASO efforts can also help apps stay competitive in crowded marketplaces.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time app store optimization (ASO) specialist?

To thrive as a Full Time App Store Optimization Specialist, you need expertise in keyword research, analytics, mobile marketing, and a solid understanding of app store algorithms, typically supported by experience in digital marketing or related fields. Familiarity with ASO tools like App Annie, Sensor Tower, and data analysis platforms is commonly required. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication help you craft compelling app listings and collaborate across teams. These skills are vital for increasing app visibility, driving downloads, and ensuring sustained growth in competitive app marketplaces.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in app store optimization (ASO) roles, and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge in App Store Optimization is keeping up with frequent changes to app store algorithms and ranking factors, which can directly impact app visibility. Additionally, ASO professionals must balance keyword optimization with compelling creative assets to attract downloads, all while monitoring competitors. Success in this role often requires ongoing analysis, experimentation, and effective collaboration with marketing, product, and design teams. Staying updated on best practices and regularly testing strategies can help overcome these challenges and drive sustained app growth.

What is the difference between Full Time App Store Optimization vs App Marketing Specialist?

About PayJoy
ย
PayJoy, a Public Benefit Corporation, is a mission-first credit provider dedicated to helping under-served customers in emerging markets to achieve financial stability and success.ย  Our patented technology for secured credit provides an on-ramp for new customers to enter the credit system.ย  Through PayJoy's point-of-sale financing and card offerings, customers gain access to a modern quality of life.ย  PayJoy's credit also allows our customers to seize opportunities as micro-entrepreneurs, and acts as insurance for tough times. Through our cutting-edge machine learning, data science, and anti-fraud AI, we have served over 18 million customers as of 2025 while achieving solid profitability for sustainable growth.
ย
This role

As Principal Product Manager, Mobile, you will own the vision, architecture, and execution of transforming PayJoy's Apps into a destination for our customers.ย

ย

This is a senior Individual Contributor role reporting to the SVP of Product Management, you'll work directly with Engineering leadership and the executive team to shape PayJoy's next chapter.

ย

WHAT YOU'LL DO

ย

Platform vision & strategy

  • Define and drive the multi-year product strategy for PayJoy's App platform.

  • Capitalize on active user traffic by designing personalized cross-sell capabilities

  • Identify opportunities to extend the platform beyond loan servicing - including e-commerce, rewards and benefits ecosystems, and engagement tools.

  • Develop the strategy for embedding financial education into the app, appropriate for a low financial literacy customer base.

ย

Execution & delivery

  • Own end-to-end product delivery: from discovery and prioritization through development, launch, and post-launch iteration across all app surfaces.

  • Define platform-level standards for navigation, architecture, performance, and UX consistency across all apps.

  • Establish country specific localization standards to ensure regulatory compliance across PayJoy global markets

  • Drive PayJoy's app store presence - owning store optimization, ratings management, and release strategy on Google Play and App Stores.

ย

Cross-functional leadership

  • Partner deeply with Engineering leadership to align on architecture decisions, build out native mobile best practices, and scale platform capacity.

  • Own key business KPIs such as cross sell and reduced CX contacts per active user

  • Ensure platform investments accelerate core revenue to the business.

  • Influence senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, and Operations to align on platform priorities and trade-offs.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

ย

Required

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or staff-level role

  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling consumer mobile apps - ideally at a company that's gone through a platform inflection point.

  • Deep expertise in Android and/or iOS product development: navigation patterns, mobile architecture, performance, and app store operations.

  • Strong background in fintech, consumer financial services, or a similarly regulated, data-intensive domain.

  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous strategic goals into clear roadmaps, sharp prioritization decisions, and measurable outcomes.

  • Demonstrated capability to define instrumentation events, execute phased rollouts, and measure metrics

  • Exceptional cross-functional influencer across engineering, design, data, risk, and operations - without relying on formal authority.

  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.

ย

Nice to have

  • Experience with multi-app or platform-level product architecture - particularly secured/unsecured or credit lifecycle product models.

  • Background in emerging markets, LATAM, or building products for underbanked consumer segments.

  • Hands-on experience with app store optimization, growth loops, or engagement and retention product mechanics.

  • SQL fluency or equivalent ability to self-serve product insights from data.

  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.

WHY THIS ROLE, WHY NOW

You'll have genuine ownership, executive partnership, and the opportunity to shape a platform that millions of people rely on for their financial lives. If you've built great consumer apps before and want to apply that craft where it really matters, this is that role.

$303,000 - $320,000 a year
