Job description

Position Description Assistant Fleet Manager

Reports to: Fleet Manager

Position Objectives:

The Assistant Fleet Manager is responsible for supporting the Fleet Manager with all GDH Fleet Equipment Operations.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assists in administrating the contracted maintenance service provider work on the GHDC fleet in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Reviews and approves invoices from maintenance service provider. Once approved, submits invoices for payment.
  • Make decisions regarding whether to have the contracted maintenance service provider work on a vehicle or possibly consider not performing maintenance, because said maintenance would not substantially improve the use of the vehicle.
  • Meet with the Delivery Supervisors at each branch monthly to audit daily pre-trip inspection programs as required by law.
  • Checks all vehicles for current permits and licenses as required by law.
  • Facilitates solutions between the contracted service maintenance providers on behalf of GHDC.
  • Assists with DOT file issues that are reported from the different delivery supervisors per location. Coordinate follow-up with Safety Plus.
  • Pronto Form follow up as needed.
  • Provides information and suggestions regarding the replacement of fleet to allow for effective equipment utilization for all companies.
  • Travels to all assigned locations and branches as needed to perform job duties.
  • Keeps informed of company policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the management of fuel cards for the fleet. Collects fuel cards from the delivery manager or branch manager when an employee has left company.
  • Review the fuel bill from fuel suppliers at assigned branches to ensure integrity of the fuel card usage as it is charged to the company. Alert management to possible abuses of the fuel card program.
  • Attend at least 2 safety meetings per quarter, and 2 in each different branch per year, and be available as a presenter at a meeting as requested.
  • Provides training to delivery managers, drivers, on various topics emphasizing safety and following company procedures.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties may as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Class A CDL with clean driving record required
  • 5 years Tractor Trailer technical experience
  • 5 years Tractor Trailer electrical systems experience
  • 5 years Gasoline vehicle technical experience
  • Certified Tractor Trailer FMCSA Brake Inspector
  • Familiar with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Familiar with Federal and State Laws
  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word Document
  • Strong Attention to Detail with Exceptional organization and time management skills
  • Ability to Interact with various Employees and Vendors in a professional manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
