Job Summary
The Environmental Services (EVS) Manager is responsible for supporting the successful operation of the Environmental Services department within a 362-bed acute care hospital. This position provides leadership to frontline staff, ensures the highest standards of cleanliness and infection prevention, promotes employee engagement, and helps deliver a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily housekeeping and environmental services operations to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment
  • Ensure assigned areas consistently meet hospital, regulatory, and infection prevention standards
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention of EVS team members
  • Assist with staff scheduling and daily workforce planning to ensure appropriate coverage and productivity
  • Assign work areas, project responsibilities, and special cleaning assignments based on departmental priorities
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor periodic and project-based cleaning activities
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, recognition, and performance feedback to team members
  • Lead by example in promoting exceptional customer service and responsiveness to patients, visitors, and hospital staff
  • Participate in departmental meetings, leadership development programs, and ongoing training initiatives
  • Support quality assurance, infection prevention, and continuous improvement programs throughout the facility
  • Ensure the proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and accountability of departmental equipment and supplies
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures, including the proper handling and storage of chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits to ensure cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist frontline staff with cleaning responsibilities as needed to support operational requirements
  • Support department budget goals through effective labor, supply, and equipment management
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Four (4) years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, facilities support, hospitality services, or a related field
  • One or more years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in a healthcare environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and engage diverse teams
  • Associates degree a plus but not required
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, customer service, and operational excellence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Understanding of budgeting principles, labor management, and expense control
  • Highly organized with strong administrative and time-management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other web-based systems
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST), Registered Executive Housekeeper (REH), or other relevant certification is preferred.
