Job Description:

Overview

The Business Affairs Group Lead plays an integral role leading the team during creative development and integrated productions, including broadcast, print, experiential, and digital projects. This person is a team player with a creative mind, an ability to thrive in a fast-paced creative environment, and an extensive understanding of the production process from conception to final delivery.
Pay Range is $170,000 to $190,000
This is a hybrid role in either our NY, LA, or Chicago office

What You'll Do

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Oversee, educate, and mentor a dedicated business affairs pod, providing guidance and support to the team
  • Work closely with internal brand teams to find solutions to challenges including budgets and production protocols
  • Identify and implement processes and structure between the team and internal departments and external partners
  • Scope existing client retainers and projects, and assign team members accordingly
  • Ensure agency best practices and guidelines are adhered to, including union agreements, employment regulations, and client and Groupe guidelines
  • Collaborate with agency legal to ensure the production department remains compliant with internal legal protocols
  • Ensure all industry policies and standardized legal documents are kept up to date and distributed accordingly
  • Implement internal educational training on business affairs topics such as talent, music, and social media platforms

Creative & Production

  • Partner with various agency teams to educate on and review creative materials at all stages, advising on talent, third-party rights (copyright, trademark, and rights of publicity), and other advertising regulations and guidelines
  • Review vendor policies and agreements to ensure alignment with client SOWs and MSAs
  • Partner with legal counsel to perform preliminary trademark searches
  • Advise on third-party rights clearance and assessments
  • Partner with agency legal on contract challenges, release standardization and updates, templates, and risk assessments
  • Negotiate partnership agreements, including celebrity talent, creator, music, and intellectual property deals
  • Advise on non-union, SAG-AFTRA, and AFM (where applicable) agreements, including waivers, interpretations, regulations, and best practices
  • Advise on the broader production landscape, including crew unions, employment guidelines, and best practices

Qualifications

8+ years of experience leading full-cycle business affairs on large client brands, with extensive knowledge of the SAG-AFTRA/AFM Commercials Contracts. Strong knowledge of legal guidelines for commercial production, including third-party rights, FTC regulations, and insurance. Extensive experience negotiating contracts involving celebrities, music, and intellectual property.
