Kinship Community Food Center is seeking an individual to maintain our current catering program at the Kinship Cafe and scale our current Cafe onsite catering program to include larger, more frequent, and off-site events. Additionally, the Catering Manager will help design and develop catering and event opportunities at Kinship's forthcoming Community Food Center slated for completion in 2027.

Our Mission

Kinship Community Food Center engages volunteers and neighborhood residents to end hunger, isolation, and poverty. The mission pillars of our work are 1) nourishing food security and wellness, 2) fostering kinship and community engagement, and 3) creating stability & economic opportunity.

Our fresh food market, urban farm, food wellness programs, cafe, and catering expand food access while teaching healthful habits and skills in a community of belonging where crisis assistance and mentoring is made available. We believe no one is so deprived that they have nothing to give, and no one is so well-off that they no longer have needs.

Position Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the planning, staffing, and executing of Kinship Catering's social enterprise business operations
  • Supervision of all team members participating in catering work, with an emphasis on maintaining a therapeutic work environment for participants in our workforce development program
  • Work closely with Workforce Development Manager, Cafe Culinary Manager, Cafe Operations Manager, and other Kinship Workforce Development Staff to ensure the success of the trainee program and the catering program (this includes navigating individual trainee's personal development plans, trainee schedules, finding coverage for shifts when necessary, identifying potential new cafe candidates, etc.)
  • Assist in the visioning and business model planning for the Catering & Event Space social enterprise for the new Kinship Community Food Center building
  • Act as a front-facing community ambassador for Kinship Cafe and the workforce program to share the organization's mission/vision, but also for developing additional revenue sources and fundraising possibilities
  • Expand the catering program's culinary offerings over time, with potential to add breakfast items, cocktail hour/appetizer options, and additional lunch menu choices
  • Work to expand catering customer base through community outreach with local businesses and organizations, starting with entities already a part of Kinship's sizable donor/volunteer database
  • Maintain great customer service experience through monitoring feedback and customer data points.
  • Other tasks related to the running of a catering program, including but not limited to; client communication, scheduling, invoicing, menu profitability, ordering, prep, inventory, cleanliness and safety, onsite delivery and setup, etc.


Desired Requirements

  • Receptiveness to overall servant leader model and mission of Kinship Community Food Center
  • 2+ years of work experience in culinary, catering, hospitality, or related field
  • Food handling experience and food safety certifications (or the ability to procure these within 3 months of hire date)
  • Highly motivated, self-directed with a positive attitude and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated organizational, collaborative, interpersonal, and written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Openness to work within a Christian/Catholic faith-based environment based on social justice principles.
  • Valid Driver's license, proof of insurance, and transportation to support work activities

A competitive annual salary of $50,000 - $56,000 (commensurate with experience), benefits package, a flexible work environment, an enthusiastic team of dedicated staff and volunteers.

Working Conditions:

Work Location: Commercial kitchen with workforce trainees and volunteer helpers.

Physical Requirements: Standing and sitting for prolonged periods. Typing on a computer keyboard. Lifting objects of 40 pounds or less. Ability to operate commercial kitchen appliances and equipment, a hand cart, and a cargo van.
