Job description

About Us

More than a business, we’re on a mission. Five years ago, we set out to build a vibrant gathering place rooted in high-quality food and a true love for eating local. Today, Lowcountry Fresh is a bustling market with a dedicated kitchen and bakery team pouring passion into every dish. Thanks to our amazing community, we’ve purchased over $1,000,000 in local products directly from Lowcountry farmers and artisans.

If you love fresh food and believe in supporting local growers and makers, join us to keep the jewel in our crown—our fresh foods—looking incredible and exceeding customer expectations.

The Opportunity: An "On-the-Job MBA"

This isn't just a merchandising role—it’s an opportunity to learn the operational engine of a successful business. You will report to an experience assistant store manager and work directly with our owners (one a former public company CEO, and the other a successful entrepreneur and professor at a top-three U.S. business school) to gain real-world business acumen:

  • Learn the basics and beyond of product pricing, margins, and yield management.
  • Help develop and recommend merchandising and promotional calendars for produce, meat, and seafood.
  • Review monthly financial and operational results alongside business leaders who double as mentors.
  • Meet with local growers to understand the care and expertise that goes into our products and to plan seasonal features.

Key Responsibilities

  • Merchandising & Display: Receive, inspect, and style fresh, locally sourced, and organic produce, meat, and seafood into attractive, high-impact displays.
  • Stock & Presentation: Keep fresh food areas continuously stocked, pristine, and visually appealing throughout the day.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain precise inventory records by receiving product with care, and entering accurate adjustments into our inventory management system.
  • Production of house made specialty items: Produce house specialty items (i.e. peanut butter, orange juice using really cool machines) to ensure shelves are fully stocked with these popular items.
  • Customer Engagement: Speak enthusiastically and knowledgeably to customers about our premium products and local sourcing mission. Help portion, weigh and package products to order.

What We’re Looking For

  • Eye for Detail & Visual Styling: Strong visual merchandising skills with a passion for making fresh food look its absolute best.
  • Organizational Skills: High attention to detail with the ability to keep inventory tight and your workspace and workday organized.
  • Fresh food knowledge: Understanding the basics of how our fresh products might be used by our customers along with an interest in learning about the specific points of difference that make our products superior to supermarket groceries.
  • Communication & Passion: Ability to articulate our local mission and product quality to customers with genuine enthusiasm.
  • Growth Mindset: A proactive learner eager to understand business operations, retail metrics, and food management.

To Apply

If you’re ready to help our local farmers, fishermen and other producers, grow your business skills while serving exceptional food to our community, apply today by sending a message or visiting us in person at Lowcountry Fresh Market & Cafe!
