Job Summary: Grocery clerks are responsible for ensuring the grocery department is well-stocked for our customers. S/he must assist in the receiving, storing, and stocking of products while guaranteeing proper product rotation and quality. S/he must be familiar with store products and their locations in order to assist customers in locating items. As a PFM team member, s/he must exemplify the Pete's Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Provide everyone (both internal and external customers) with exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure service standards are met, and often exceed company expectations.
  • Effectively handle and stock grocery products.
  • Rotate and monitor quality of products and signs, stock and merchandise products in their department, build product displays, and handle product damages and credits according to company policy.
  • Complete all stocking and clean-up duties in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Assist with the actual store operation activities such as cleaning or hanging signs, depending upon business needs.
  • Assist in back-stock, and ensure the timely return of all items.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. with 0-3 years of experience in grocery store or similar retail environment.
  • Must have a valid and up to date Food Handler's Certificate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of department functions.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
  • Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow-team members.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands
  • The position is specifically for the overnight shift, but there may be requests to work other shifts as determined by store/business needs.
  • Must have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, climb, balance, stoop to grasp objects, kneel, crouch, crawl, frequently push/pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift and/or move loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to enter the coolers and freezers, thereby being subjected to and withstanding frequent temperature changes for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to manage occasional high stress when dealing with systems, customers, and staff.
  • Must have reliable source of transportation.

Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience, and qualifications. All positions are eligible for Overtime, and some positions will have guaranteed Overtime available.
Hourly rate for Suburban Stores is $15-$18
Hourly rate for City of Chicago Stores is $16.60-$18
