Job description

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Project Engineer for our Bridge Department in Wall, NJ.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis and design of bridges and related transportation structures, including new construction, rehabilitation, and replacement projects.

  • Prepare design plans, technical reports, calculations, and specifications in accordance with applicable standards and client requirements.

  • Support project management activities including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with internal disciplines and external clients.

  • Conduct structural modeling and load rating analyses using software such as LEAP Bridge, MIDAS, LARSA, or CSiBridge.

  • Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, and environmental teams to ensure integrated project delivery.

  • Review design documents for quality, accuracy, and compliance with AASHTO LRFD, DOT, and local standards.

  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and field data collection to support design and construction activities.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical support and training as needed.

  • Assist with proposal preparation, cost estimating, and business development efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.

  • 5–8 years of progressive experience in bridge design and structural engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or the ability to obtain within six months.

  • Proficiency in bridge analysis and design software (e.g., LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD, or equivalent).

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; Revit experience a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and relevant DOT design procedures.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is $89,000 to $115,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education and skill set.
