  • This job is a member of the Aicraft Configuration Management Team within the Technical Operations Department.
  • Responsible for leading a technical organization with tactical and strategic decision making to support the activites of the airline. This job also leads efforts to continuously improve the products and processes of the organization. Also provides management review and control over assigned units of engineering work, including the development of projects, structure or processes supporting the overall continuous airworthiness maintenance program.

What you'll do
  • Demonstrates authoritative technical leadership with creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment, anticipating and directing solutions to engineering problems
  • Acts as focal on addressing technical issues essential to the success of the Company
  • Responsible for all regulatory matters as they pertain to engineering on the assigned equipment.Acts as focal point for all engineering matters on the assigned equipment
  • Responsible for providing adequately trained and qualified technical resources to support Company objectives
  • Liaises with internal and external supplier and maintenance organizations to ensure product specifications and maintenance activities actively support the goals established for the product
  • Ensures timely review/analysis and follow-up action for mandated FAA programs and other Company generated programs
  • Establishes team performance objectives that will support the Company's business objectives and drives the accomplishment of these team objectives to help ensure the Company's successful operation
  • Provides training and assistance to Engineering personnel in the preparation and execution of their activities
  • Develops direct reports and staff by setting clear expectations, reviewing progress and providing concise feedback and guidance for improvement while maintaining accountability
  • Assists senior management in providing opportunities for career advancement and growth for engineering personnel that balances personal aspirations with company objectives
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the organization
  • Manages departmental expenses to budget

All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required
  • 5 years experience in a leadership role in commercial aviation
  • Extensive experience with airline engineering business processes
  • Experience with maintenance of large commercial aircraft

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Master's Degree in Engineering
  • 10 years airline industry or equivalent experience
  • Thorough understanding of AA Policies and Procedures
  • Aviation experience
  • Yellow Belt certification from a qualified source for Lean/Six Sigma (LSS) accrediation

Skills, Licenses & Certifications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage major projects on schedule
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to fleet problems and drive to successful implementation
  • Capable of managing several projects simultaneously with multiple deadlines
  • Skilled in identifying personnel strengths and weaknesses; utilizes team members effectively to leverage skills and provides opportunities and direction to reduce weaknesses
