Job description

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Freight Specialist to join our team in Troutville, VA. This position will be responsible for managing system updates associated with rates, fuel, miles, and additional items associated with truck logistics for cement, fly ash, and aggregates. Creating rapport and communicating to logistics providers and ensuring timely and accuracy of data input.

  • Manage entry and storage of carrier rates
  • Maintain organized records of communication with regards to carrier agreements via various systems
  • Request rates from various carriers, communicate with Freight Supervisor for approval prior to confirming and publication
  • Support Freight Supervisor in optimizing transportation costs and efficiency by completing various reports and projects
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Provide support and guidance to internal teams on logistics and shipping matters
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices
  • Maintain Fuel Surcharge and Mileage respectively for shipments
  • Review, obtain approval, create and process Purchase Requisitions for parts, services, and deliveries for invoicing and payment associated with logistics
  • Review, obtain approval, create process and receive Purchase Orders for parts, services, deliveries, and cancellations for invoicing and payment associated with logistics
  • Maintain tickets for shipments to process for invoicing (Staging Area) associated with truck freight
  • Assist with freight onboarding and create freight service POs for new haulers
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
  • Proven experience working in logistics, transportation, or a similar role
  • Strong understanding of freight forwarding, shipping regulations, and customs procedures
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks
  • Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Preferred: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
