What is freelance support?

Freelance support refers to providing specialized assistance or services on a flexible, contract basis rather than as a full-time employee. Freelancers in support roles may help businesses or individuals with tasks such as customer service, technical troubleshooting, administrative duties, or project management. This arrangement allows companies to access skilled support when needed without long-term commitments, while freelancers enjoy the flexibility to choose their clients and working hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance support professional?

To thrive as a Freelance Support professional, you need expertise in customer service, problem-solving, and familiarity with online communication platforms, usually demonstrated through relevant experience or training. Proficiency in support ticketing systems (like Zendesk or Freshdesk), communication tools (such as Slack or email clients), and sometimes CRM software is typically required. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and clear written communication help freelancers deliver consistent and high-quality support independently. These skills ensure efficient client assistance, timely resolution of issues, and long-term client satisfaction in a flexible, remote work environment.

How do freelance support professionals typically manage communication and expectations with multiple clients at once?

Freelance Support professionals often juggle several client projects simultaneously, making clear communication and expectation management essential. They use tools like email, project management platforms, and instant messaging apps to stay organized and provide timely updates. Setting boundaries around response times, deliverables, and availability helps ensure that clients remain informed and satisfied. Regular check-ins and progress reports can also prevent misunderstandings and foster positive, long-term client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Own project timelines from kickoff to delivery across multiple concurrent campaigns/shoots

  • Coordinate between creative, production, and client-facing teams
  • Track deliverables, flag risks early, and keep stakeholders informed

  • Run status meetings, maintain project docs, and own the source of truth for timelines
  • Support onsite production logistics when needed (call sheets, schedules, vendor coordination)

Qualifications

  • 2–4+ years of project management experience, ideally in an agency, production, or creative environment
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple projects at once
  • Clear communicator who can translate between creative and operational priorities

  • Strong familiarity with the Richmond, VA business landscape
  • Located in Richmond, VA

Compensation

What We Offer

  • Hybrid work environment with flexible scheduling

  • Access to agency training resources and professional development workshops
  • A collaborative, fast-moving team culture
  • Exposure to diverse industries and client challenges
