A Trainee Audio Visual Designer assists in creating and implementing audio-visual solutions, such as designing layouts for sound, video, and lighting systems used in events, presentations, or installations. They typically work under the guidance of experienced designers, learning to use specialized software and equipment to support technical setups. Their responsibilities may include helping with equipment installation, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring that presentations run smoothly. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience and training for a career in the AV industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a trainee audio visual designer?

To thrive as a Trainee Audio Visual Designer, you need a basic understanding of AV concepts, design principles, and a relevant qualification such as a diploma or degree in audio visual technology or a related field. Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD or SketchUp, as well as AV control systems and signal flow, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help you collaborate with teams and interpret client requirements. These skills ensure high-quality AV solutions tailored to client needs and successful project delivery.

  • Integrate Seamlessly: Partner with field installation teams to ensure your code works hand-in-hand with system design and installation standards.
  • Test & Commission: Conduct thorough system testing, verification, and troubleshooting to ensure every project achieves full functionality before handoff.
  • Document Everything: Create and maintain organized programming documentation, including source code, touch panel templates, and user interface files.
  • Collaborate & Communicate: Work cross-functionally with clients, engineers, and project managers to ensure technical alignment, client satisfaction, and timely delivery.
  • Contribute to Innovation: Stay current with emerging AV technologies and control platforms to continuously improve system design and programming quality.

  • Proven experience with unified collaboration systems such as Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and IP-based AV integration.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, signal flow diagrams, and rack elevations.
  • Deep understanding of audio DSP, video routing, control logic, and system commissioning.
  • Certifications strongly preferred: Crestron Certified Programmer, Extron Control Professional, Biamp TesiraForte or QSC Q-SYS Programmer, AVIXA CTS (CTS-D preferred)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Visio, or Stardraw for documentation.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Why Join Us?
  • Impact: Your programming expertise will define how people experience technology every day.
  • Collaboration: Partner with designers, engineers, and integrators who share your drive for excellence.

  • Culture: Be part of a team that believes in craftsmanship, curiosity, and doing the job right.
  • Reward: Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge AV technologies.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
