Both roles require creativity and industry knowledge, but their core functions and work environments differ significantly.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in a freelance startup studio environment?

Professionals in freelance startup studios often encounter challenges such as balancing multiple projects for various clients, adapting quickly to different industries, and managing time effectively without the structure of a traditional office. Collaboration with remote or contract-based team members can also require proactive communication and strong organizational skills. However, these challenges can foster adaptability, broaden your skill set, and provide valuable networking opportunities within the startup ecosystem.

What is a Freelance Startup Studio?

A Freelance Startup Studio is an organization or individual that helps launch multiple startups by providing resources, expertise, and support on a freelance or project basis. Unlike traditional startup studios, which build startups in-house, freelance startup studios typically work with external clients or founders, offering services such as idea validation, product development, marketing, and fundraising support. This model allows startups to access specialized skills and flexible resources without committing to full-time hires, accelerating their growth and reducing initial costs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Freelance Startup Studio professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Startup Studio professional, you need entrepreneurial acumen, business development skills, and a strong grasp of startup methodologies, often supported by experience in launching or scaling startups. Familiarity with project management tools (like Trello or Asana), prototyping platforms, and basic financial modeling is common, and certifications in lean startup or agile methodologies can be beneficial. Creativity, resilience, and strong networking abilities are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are essential for successfully ideating, validating, and executing innovative ventures in a highly dynamic and competitive environment.

Job description

About Comfrt
Comfrt is one of the fastest-growing direct-to-consumer brands, dedicated to blending mental wellness, inclusivity, and elevated comfort into every piece we create. Our mission goes beyond clothing — we strive to build a community where everyone feels supported and seen.

About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Producer to own photo and video production at our studios in Miami. You will be the on-the-ground execution lead, driving projects from initial brief through final asset delivery, managing teams and logistics on shoot days, and ensuring every piece of content is on brand, on budget, and on time. You will work closely with our marketing teams to bring Comfrt's visual identity to life across social, digital, and in-app channels. This is a field-forward role that requires regular, in-person presence on set in Miami.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the full production lifecycle for photo and video shoots, from concept and scheduling through shoot execution and post-production delivery.
  • Serve as the on-site production lead in Miami: manage crew, talent, equipment, props, and logistics on all shoot days.
  • Define project scope, develop detailed production timelines and shot lists, and manage budget allocations from planning through reconciliation.
  • Source and secure locations, permits, equipment rentals, and crew.
  • Coordinate travel and accommodation as needed.
  • Collaborate with the creative and marketing teams to translate concepts and campaign briefs into executable production plans.
  • Manage prop sourcing, inventory, and organization for recurring productions; maintain a well-organized digital asset library for all delivered content.
  • Ensure all contractors and vendors have signed appropriate agreements; liaise with legal as required.
  • Anticipate on-set challenges and implement solutions quickly to keep productions on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify and propose workflow improvements that increase production efficiency and content quality over time.
  • Own and communicate shoot volume and cadence across the production calendar, sometimes overseeing multiple shoots per week
  • Build and maintain relationships with a reliable freelance crew network; assess and onboard new vendors as the studio grows

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Producer or Production Supervisor/Manager on photo/video shoots, preferable for a lifestyle apparel brand or DTC brand
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, shot lists, and crews end-to-end on fast-paced productions.
  • Experience managing multiple shoots per week across ecommerce, lifestyle, and social-first content formats
  • Expert proficiency with project management and workflow tools (Asana, Notion, or similar).
  • A collaborative, solutions-first mindset with a calm, composed presence on set.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to align creative and operational stakeholders
  • Comfort operating in a lean, fast-moving startup where priorities can shift quickly and ownership is encouraged.
  • Based in Miami, FL. Regular on-site presence is required.
  • A portfolio showcasing creative experience.
  • Reports directly to the Senior Creative Director

Nice to Have

  • Background in social-first or short-form video content production (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts).
  • Familiarity with post-production workflows, digital asset management (DAM) systems, and asset delivery pipelines.
  • Comfort with AI creative tools and willingness to integrate them into production workflows

Why Join Comfrt?

  • Be part of a purpose-driven company that’s shaping the future of comfort and mental wellness.
  • Work in a supportive, creative environment where your ideas and growth are valued.
  • Enjoy Comfrt benefits such as generous paid time off, company-covered health insurance, 5% 401k match, and discounts on all Comfrt products!
  • Join a passionate team making an impact on exciting projects.

Comfrt is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.
