What is the difference between Freelance Recycling vs Recycling Technician?

Both roles contribute to waste management but differ in work setup and credentials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Freelance Recycling Professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Recycling Professional, you need a solid understanding of waste management practices, environmental regulations, and safe handling of recyclable materials, often supplemented by relevant training or certifications in recycling or environmental services. Familiarity with recycling collection tools, sorting equipment, and local recycling management systems is typically necessary. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set individuals apart in this role. These skills ensure responsible handling, compliance with regulations, and efficient recycling operations, which are critical for environmental sustainability and client satisfaction.

What is freelance recycling?

Freelance recycling involves individuals or small businesses collecting, sorting, and selling recyclable materials independently, rather than working for a recycling company. Freelance recyclers typically gather materials like scrap metal, cardboard, plastics, or electronics from households, businesses, or public spaces. They then sell these items to recycling centers or scrap yards for profit. This work is flexible and can be done part-time or as a full-time occupation, depending on the recycler’s resources and local demand.

This role has the potential to transition into a longer-term position based on performance and team needs.
Location: Brooklyn NY
Responsibilities:
  • Own the content creation process from concept to final delivery for in-house content needs
  • Pitch content ideas with a strong focus on reach, engagement, and storytelling, supporting brand growth and community building across Instagram and TikTok
  • Partner with the social team to identify UGC partners and curate asset requests
  • Create multiple pieces of high-quality, aspirational content including reactive concepts that lean into fast paced cultural/social conversations
  • Create face forward and faceless content to support brand needs (ie. You're willing to be on camera and film yourself!)
  • Act as the point person for BTS content capture at shoots, events, and in office
  • Edit using mobile tools, templates, or scrappy workarounds to make magic from brand assets, UGC, and your own footage
  • Collaborate with the team to analyze performance, spot trends, and evolve content strategy based on learnings
  • Use brand content and guidelines to create social assets across social platforms
  • Partner with the Creative Team to support social needs while preserving brand identify

Requirements:
  • 1-3+ years creating content for a beauty, lifestyle, or fashion brand (in-house, agency, or as an established creator)
  • Strong portfolio of short-form content for Instagram and TikTok with a clear grasp of what drives reach, engagement, and shareability - not just polished production
  • Comfortable being face-forward on camera (filming yourself, presenting, reacting) as well as producing faceless/product-first content
  • Sharp cultural awareness - plugged into trends, sounds, formats, and conversations, with the speed to turn ideas around while they're still relevant
  • Proficient editing on mobile tools (CapCut, InShot, or similar) and comfortable working scrappy - templates, trending formats, quick turnarounds over heavy post-production
  • Strong storytelling instincts and ability to pitch original concepts, not just execute briefs
  • Experience capturing BTS/on-the-ground content at events, shoots, or in an office setting
  • Collaborative mindset - able to work closely with social, creative, and community teams while keeping output on-brand
  • Comfortable using performance data/insights to inform what you create next
