Job description

General Summary Under the supervision of the Environmental Sustainability Director, provide materials management support for Eaton County's Department of Resource Recovery. Materials management support includes operating the department's Mobile Recycling Program (MRP) throughout rural communities in the County. The MRP collects recyclable materials (plastic, metal, glass, paper, cardboard, batteries, and more, for processing at the Sunfield Recycling Center.

This position will be baling and managing materials at the Sunfield Recycling Center with the Resource Recovery team. Additionally, this position supports waste recovery and data collection efforts, including county-wide events. No prior recycling knowledge is required for this position.

Starting pay is dependent on an applicant's relevant experience. **Applications are accepted until there are sufficient numbers of qualified applications or a qualified candidate is identified. This position could close at any time.** Essential Functions Assists in the Mobile Recycling Program for rural communities

Travelling with staff and the recycling trailer to Eaton County communities on a weekly basis. Assisting and educating community members about recycling and source separation of materials. Provide support and assistance to community members using the recycling trailer.

Assists in the management of the recyclable materials at the Sunfield Recycling Center. Unloading the recycling trailer and sorting recycling materials to the proper location. Assists in inventory, movement and organizing of recyclable materials.

Assists in baling recyclable materials and shipments to manufacturers/brokers. Assists in data collection and reporting. Assists in compiling and communicating materials data to the Director.

Communicate with members of the public, community stakeholders, volunteers, and other employees in a positive manner; through the use of active listening aiming to maintain both respect and patience while serving the County. Other Functions Assists with organizing various events, including moving materials, tables, displays and so forth. Occasionally it requires working evenings or weekends to assist with events and special projects.

Performs other duties as assigned. This list may not be inclusive of the total scope of job functions to be performed. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or modified at any time.

Minimum Qualifications Education: High school graduation or its equivalent. Advanced coursework or previous work experience in logistics, warehousing, environmental science, waste management, communication, education and/or related areas preferred, but not required. Experience: Some prior office and warehouse/logistics experience including managing data using Microsoft Excel, forklift operations, and inventory management is preferred, but not required.

Other Requirements: Exceptional written, interpersonal, and verbal skills are highly desired. Data entry experience with a high level of proficiency and accuracy required. Must possess a valid license and favorable driving record.
