Job description

The Japanese/English Interpreter/Translator will provide consecutive/simultaneous interpretation for those occasions including but not limited to: written translation and verbal interpretation of both internal and external meetings, conferences, individual meetings, tele-conferences, ceremonies/events, business trips, visitation to and by the customers, vendors, suppliers, governmental authorities, industry associations, parent company and Daikin affiliates.  

Position Responsibilities may include:

  • Provide accurate and comprehensive consecutive/simultaneous interpretation that allows listeners and speakers to gain maximum result from the communication.
  • Perform written translation of any documents in word, excel, power point and PDF inclusive of e-mail communications.
  • Render messages from one language to another accurately, without omissions and additions, and maintain message content, context, and style as much as possible.
  • Maintain professional demeanor in presentation and communication style.
  • Assist with creating and editing presentations and coordinating meetings.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.
  • Operate with a high level of integrity and proper handling and protection of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Know industry specific terminology, referencing glossaries and training materials.
  • Know all relevant vocabulary and basic knowledge of HVAC industry, equipment and technologies. 
  • Perform additional activities/projects as assigned.

  • Possesses a broad theoretical job knowledge typically obtained through advanced education
  • Has no discretion to deviate from established procedures by performing structured work assignments

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Language proficiency in English and Japanese both verbal and written
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy of information
  • Effective organizational and time management skills including ability to prioritize tasks along with sense of urgency
  • Working knowledge of MS Office – Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel and PDF
  • Possess a positive attitude and good interpersonal skills to interact daily with internal and external employees as well as senior leaders and executive staff
  • Ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Work well with others in a positive environment and understand the power of “we”
  • Display a passion for customer satisfaction and is always ready to fuel our service engine

  • Possess knowledge of audio and visual equipment a plus, or ability to learn quickly

Experience:

  • 2+ consecutive years of experience working as a full-time simultaneous interpreter or 3+ years’ experience as a freelance simultaneous interpreter of Japanese and English

Education/Certification:

  • BS in Interpretation preferable

People Management: No

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

• Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations 

• Occasional domestic/international business trip, luncheon/dinner attendance may be requested. 

• Interpretation in the manufacturing facilities is required.
