Job Title: Director of Marketing and Communications 

Location: Buffalo/Rochester/Jamestown, NY (Hybrid Work Schedule Available)
Reports To: Chief Development Officer (CDO)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $62,000 - $65,000, based on experience

Position Summary:

The Director of Marketing and Communications at Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY) is a strategic, hands-on leader responsible for driving the brand presence, visibility, and engagement of the Girl Scout mission across Western New York. This role leads the creation and execution of a comprehensive marketing calendar, campaigns, and multi-channel strategies to increase membership, volunteerism, program participation, community awareness, and donor stewardship. The Director collaborates across teams and with external vendors and partners to deliver high-quality, mission-aligned marketing that reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the Girl Scout experience. 

Essential Functions:

Marketing Strategy & Campaign Execution

  • Ensure the marketing strategy aligns with GSWNY’s strategic plan, vision, mission, values, and equity commitment.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive annual marketing calendar aligned with key organizational goals, seasonal priorities, and cultural/social moments.
  • Plan and execute internal and external marketing campaigns working across departments and teams.
  • Create and maintain a strategy for email communications, including monthly newsletters, segmented campaigns, and automated messaging.
  • Lead social media planning and execution across all platforms with a focus on engagement, growth, and brand alignment.

Brand, Digital & Print

  • Oversee website launches, content updates, banners, and edits to ensure a consistent, user-friendly digital experience.
  • Manage the strategy and production of print materials in partnership with freelance designers, agencies, printers, or hands-on design when needed.
  • Ensure brand standards and messaging consistency across all materials and channels.

Advertising & Media

  • Lead all ad buying, including print, digital (Meta, Google Grants), TV, radio, on-demand streaming, bus ads, and cinema placements.
  • Track and optimize ad performance to ensure strong ROI and strategic targeting.
  • Develop and implement an intentional PR strategy to generate media coverage for campaigns, stories, and launches; collaborate with news producers and pitch compelling stories regularly.
  • Serve as lead on media relations and media requests, coordinating with CEO, key staff, volunteers, and caregivers to showcase GSWNY’s mission and impact.

Budget & Administrative Oversight

  • Build and manage the annual marketing budget; monitor expenses and reconcile against goals.
  • Create and track purchase orders (POs), manage Concur entries, and coordinate with finance on agency, media, and freelance payments.

Community Engagement & Events

  • Identify and cultivate collaborations with local ambassadors, influencers, and community organizations to amplify brand presence.
  • Attend and photograph key events and occasions, curating visual assets for future marketing use.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in strategic marketing, with leadership experience.
  • Proven success in campaign planning, media buying, digital marketing, and storytelling.
  • Experience managing external agencies, freelance creatives, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in digital tools (email platforms, social scheduling, analytics) and platforms like Google Ads, Meta Business Manager, and Canva or Adobe Suite; graphic design experience.
  • Understanding of Girl Scouts or similar mission-based organizations is a plus.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends for events and travel across the region.
