What is a freelance AWS professional?

Freelance AWS professionals are independent contractors who offer specialized expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) to clients on a project or hourly basis. They help businesses design, deploy, manage, and optimize cloud-based solutions using AWS infrastructure. These freelancers may handle tasks such as cloud migration, DevOps automation, security configurations, and cost optimization. Hiring a freelance AWS expert allows organizations to access high-level skills without committing to full-time employment, making it a flexible and cost-effective solution for cloud projects.

What are freelance jobs that use AWS?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a cloud-based computing platform. Freelance AWS jobs utilize the platform to help their clients' businesses run more smoothly. Some examples of these positions include freelance AWS architects who build cloud-based infrastructure for their clients. DevOps engineers create and implement a plan to make operations on the AWS platform more efficient and useful, while contract AWS developers create and configure systems and related software. In these careers, you work on a contract basis. Your job duties include meeting with each client to assess their needs and define project parameters, testing and troubleshooting the product, and making adjustments as necessary.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance AWS specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance AWS specialist, you need strong expertise in cloud computing, AWS core services (such as EC2, S3, and Lambda), and experience with infrastructure-as-code, typically supported by AWS certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Familiarity with tools like AWS CLI, CloudFormation, Terraform, and continuous integration systems is essential. Excellent client communication, self-management, and problem-solving skills set successful freelancers apart. These abilities ensure you can deliver scalable solutions, efficiently manage projects, and build strong client relationships in a competitive freelance market.

What are some common challenges freelance AWS professionals face when managing multiple client projects?

Freelance AWS professionals often juggle projects for several clients, which can lead to challenges like balancing competing deadlines, keeping up with rapidly evolving AWS services, and ensuring security best practices across different environments. Additionally, freelancers must effectively communicate with stakeholders who may have varying levels of cloud expertise, requiring them to translate technical concepts clearly. Staying organized and continuously updating technical skills are essential to deliver high-quality solutions and maintain client satisfaction.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a AWS Trainium/NKI (TRN) AI Task Auditor - Freelance AI Trainer Project based in Netherlands.

This freelance opportunity is designed for experienced technical specialists with deep expertise in AWS Trainium and the Neuron Kernel Interface (NKI).
You will audit technical tasks used to train and evaluate AI systems, ensuring they are accurate, realistic, reproducible, and technically rigorous.
The role focuses on reviewing accelerator-focused workflows, model compilation, optimization approaches, and kernel execution behavior.
You will assess whether tasks can be reliably solved and validated through appropriate tests and evaluation criteria.
Your technical judgment will help identify hardware acceleration inefficiencies, kernel execution bugs, and logic errors that could affect AI evaluation quality.
The project provides an opportunity to apply specialized knowledge of AI accelerators and kernel development to challenging, real-world technical scenarios.
As a freelance contributor, you will work independently and directly influence the quality and reliability of AI training and evaluation workflows.

Accountabilities
  • Evaluate AWS Trainium and Neuron Kernel Interface tasks to determine whether they are technically accurate, realistic, solvable, reproducible, and supported by reliable tests and evaluation criteria.
  • Review model compilation workflows and accelerator optimization approaches for technical correctness and practical effectiveness.
  • Assess NKI-based tasks and kernel execution scenarios for potential implementation issues, unexpected behavior, and technical inconsistencies.
  • Identify hardware acceleration inefficiencies, kernel execution bugs, logic errors, and other issues that may compromise task quality or evaluation accuracy.
  • Rigorously test and troubleshoot complex technical scenarios to validate expected behavior and task outcomes.
  • Provide clear, actionable technical feedback that enables task authors and evaluators to resolve identified issues and improve task quality.
  • Apply deep expertise in AWS Trainium architecture and AI acceleration to ensure training and evaluation workflows meet high technical standards.
  • Document technical findings clearly and consistently across assigned project tasks.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable professional experience and deep technical knowledge of AWS Trainium architecture, including model compilation, accelerator optimization, and Neuron Kernel Interface (NKI) frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of AI accelerator workloads and the technical considerations involved in optimizing models and kernels for specialized hardware.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to rigorously test, troubleshoot, and evaluate complex technical scenarios.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify subtle performance, execution, integration, and logic issues.
  • Ability to assess technical tasks objectively against requirements for accuracy, realism, reproducibility, and reliable evaluation.
  • Strong written communication skills for providing precise, constructive, and actionable technical feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and apply specialized technical expertise within a freelance, project-based environment.
  • Candidates will be evaluated for one area of specialization based on their professional experience; expertise across multiple technical domains is not required.
  • Ability to provide a secure computer and reliable high-speed internet connection for freelance project work.
Benefits
  • Compensation of $70-$100 per hour, with the exact rate determined based on experience, expertise, and geographic location.
  • Final compensation may vary from the published range following evaluation of your qualifications and location.
  • Freelance contract structure offering flexibility for project-based work.
  • Remote work environment.
  • Opportunity to contribute directly to the training and evaluation of advanced AI systems.
  • Opportunity to apply specialized AWS Trainium and NKI expertise to technically challenging AI evaluation projects.
  • Health insurance, paid time off, and other company-sponsored employee benefits are not provided under the freelance contract.
  • Contractors are responsible for supplying their own secure computer and high-speed internet connection.
