The Assistant Director Fraternity and Sorority Life is a member of the Student Involvement and Leadership team and reports to the Associate Director Leadership and Community Engagement. This role oversees the efforts to enhance and support the Greek community on campus and provide leadership to the chapters. This position is the primary advisor, resource person and support for the social fraternities and sororities and the governing councils for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years' experience in fraternity and sorority life, program management, leadership development or other relevant experience. (Grad. Assistant experience acceptable).
  • Relevant experience in leadership training and development, student activities programming, or major event coordination.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent leadership, organization, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • Membership in a social Greek organization.
  • Experience in student risk management.
  • Experience facilitating leadership programs.
  • Experience in the assessment of educational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest computing and technology for the student affairs area including web-based applications and/or desktop publishing.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
Fraternity and Sorority Life Leadership 35%
  • Develop plans and goals for new or revised leadership programs, services, policies, and practices that enhance Greek community and student culture.
  • Oversee the development, marketing, implementation, and assessment of the F/S community.
  • Serve as the advisor to the Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Greek Engagement Board. Develops goals and objectives to align FSL with University Mission.
  • Support chapters in the assessment of chapter health, development of strategic priorities, and their understanding of institutional expectations and adherence to institutional policies.
  • Support and attends FSL functions and campus events, as appropriate, to maintain a visible and supportive staff presence.
  • Advise/Manage the education, assessment, and membership growth of FSL.
  • Ensure it follows applicable policies and procedures. Supports expansion and extension of new fraternities/sororities with undergraduate, alumni/ae, volunteers and international organization staff.
  • Serve as the advisor for Panhellenic Recruitment, including assisting in selection and training of CPH recruitment counselors as well as assisting and supporting councils in developing best practice recruitment and intake processes.
  • Advise presidents of each fraternity/sorority chapter and ensures completion of Accreditation program for FSL.
  • Work directly with advisors and the international headquarters to ensure each chapter is meeting and exceeding the expectations of the international organization.
  • Provide timely and accurate reports to the Associate Director Leadership and Community Engagement related to any incidents or concerns relating to FSL.
  • Create and establish ongoing methods for engaging campus partners in the advising, leadership development, and programming of Greek communities.
  • Communicate, interpret, and enforce University policies and expectations to students, advisors and inter/national headquarters.

Student Development 20%
  • Provide general education, direction, management, and leadership development opportunities to enhance these Greek Letter Organizations.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with campus partners and outside organizations to enhance educational and programming opportunities for fraternity and sorority members.
  • Assist students in problem-solving and respond appropriately to challenges and/or crises. Create council and chapter level educational programming regarding leadership development, alcohol and sexual assault awareness, bystander intervention and other risk management topics. Collaborate with student leaders to ensure that all new members are provided with an education.
  • Budget permitting, travel with a student delegation to the AFLV Central Annual Conference.

Assessment 20%
  • Maintain and updates Banner Admin records and provides reports necessary to assess the FSL community.
  • Creation of semester academic report.
  • Gather information relating to retention of members, community service hours, and philanthropic dollars raised.
  • Create an annual report pertaining to the successes of FSL and provide the report to stakeholders including advisors, alumni, international headquarters, and partners in the University.
  • Assist in the production, collection, and management of accurate FSL membership records, recruitment statistics, housing information, and scholarship reports.
  • Coordinate FSL Accreditation process and FSL Awards.
  • Work with council leaders to reimagine and elevate the prestige of the awards.
Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd):
Supervision 15%
  • Hire, supervise, train and mentor paid student leaders for Greek Engagement Board.
  • Educate students based on the core competencies of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors.
  • Encourage participation in AFLV Awards and Assessment, NPC Awards and IFC Awards opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director Leadership and Community Engagement to supervise the Graduate Assistant for FSL and Leadership.
  • Support retention and engagement initiatives of the division and university.

Leadership Programming 5%
  • Coordinate First-Class Leadership Pathway and pilots the program with Emerging Leaders in Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Serve as staff logistical support to Established Leader Retreat and RaiderCamp.
  • Support the training and education for peer leaders for Established Leader Retreat and RaiderCamp.

Budget and Marketing 5%
  • Review and approve all expenditures for FSL councils.
  • Assist in creation of SOBC budget requests for all councils.
  • Develop marketing materials and social media campaigns to promote the FSL community.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the SIL staff to plan and implement signature department-sponsored events including WOW, Fall Fest, Homecoming, and April Craze.
  • Serve in various capacities on departmental and divisional committees to educate and advocate on behalf of FSL.
  • Other duties as assigned.
