About the Job:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced and highly creative Senior Video Journalist to join its video team in New York.

The ideal candidate has an extensive professional background in video journalism, exceptional story development and scriptwriting skills, and experience shooting and editing. You have impeccable news judgment, a deep understanding of what makes a successful franchise story and the ability to consistently generate fresh, audience-focused angles within established formats.

You are equally comfortable identifying opportunities in the news cycle and producing premium video content that advances the editorial vision of different, recurring franchises.

You will also have experience covering a broad range of topics, from business and the economy, to politics and technology.

You Will
  • Be responsible for pitching, developing, researching and reporting for established WSJ video franchises.

  • Consistently generate original, visually driven story ideas that serve the editorial goals of WSJ's video franchises across platforms.

  • Manage pre-production including booking and logistics.

  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of production, on tight deadlines.

  • As needed, shoot and edit your videos.

  • Bring creativity and ambition to every stage of production, developing innovative approaches to storytelling in both the field and studio.

  • Collaborate with reporters and editors across the WSJ newsroom to produce videos.

  • Ensure that all WSJ journalistic and legal standards are followed.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including breaking news assignments.

You Have
  • At least 8 years of experience producing video pieces in a news environment at a national or global media company, both in the field and in studio.

  • Prior experience with every aspect of video production from start to finish, under tight deadlines.

  • Exceptional script writing skills.

  • Experience as a DP in the field and in-studio.

  • Excellent editing skills, including use of music and graphics.

  • A deep understanding and interest in The Journal's core coverage areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify fresh angles within coverage areas and shape them into stories that support audience growth and franchise development.

  • The ability to clearly communicate and effectively collaborate.

  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
