Join us to maximize the potential of the medicines in the franchise.The role reports to the Franchise Head of Weight Management in late CVRM and is placed at one of our dynamic R&D sites in Boston, Seaport Boulevard, MA, Gaithersburg, MD or Gothenburg, Sweden.

About the RoleAs a Global Product Leader (GPL) in the weight management franchise, you will play a pivotal leadership role with accountabilities critical to delivering AstraZeneca's business objectives and portfolio value targets. You'll be responsible for crafting and executing a successful strategy for late-stage weight management projects, aligned with the overall franchise strategy throughout the asset lifecycle. In this role, you'll lead a cross-functional Global Product Team(GPT) focusing on the development and delivery of innovative medicines for people living with obesity and related cardiometabolic conditions.This position calls for a forward-thinking leader who can adeptly manage an increased pipeline, incorporate AI innovations, and foster speed and communication skills within the team. As part of the newly formed weight management franchise, you will oversee this GPT, identifying risks and opportunities to report to the franchise head.

What Youโ€™ll Do Development & Delivery of FDC Strategy
  • Define and drive strategic and scientific value creation, including development and approval of assets, integrating diverse internal and external perspectives.
  • Partner with the Commercial representative to evaluate and deliver optimal commercial strategies to maximize value.
  • Development and delivery of the Target Product Profiles (TPP) and Target Product Claims (TPC) for the asset.
  • Develop business cases for governance endorsement.
  • Collaborate closely across all R&D and commercial functions within AstraZeneca.
  • Execute governance-approved business cases within scope on time, cost, and quality, working with the Franchise Head to resolve issues.
  • Innovate and explore novel methods to accelerate dyslipidemia FDC development, leveraging new opportunities and prioritization within the franchise to maximize its value.
Risk and Opportunity Management
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks, opportunities, and strategic issues, escalating to the franchise head as necessary.
Team Leadership and Structure
  • Lead a high-performing, cross-functional team focused on the delivery of the asset objectives.
  • Drive effective decision-making and project delivery through agile sub-teams.
  • Cultivate talent within the team to foster global leadership potential.
  • Foster a biotech-like team culture that embraces challenge, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Governance and Compliance
  • Ensure governance and compliance by safeguarding AstraZenecaโ€™s rights, data, and intellectual property while ensuring that all GPT activities are conducted in line with the AZ Code of Ethics and relevant AZ policies, including compliance with ethical business practices.
  • Coordinate all external communications and publications related to the FDCs in alignment with the franchise strategy.
Support for the Franchise
  • Development and execution of the publication and PR strategy for the product.
  • Approve all external information on the product, including publications, regulatory documents, and clinical trial registers.
  • Manage and protect the Intellectual Property (IP) assets of the products in consultation with IP and legal experts, including leadership of the Patent, Regulatory, and Legal Defense Team.
  • Lead cross-functional issues management teams and prepare for Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Engage with executive management and senior leaders, including AstraZenecaโ€™s Senior Executive Team, to steer project success.
Basic Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in life sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience within the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, including being a key member of a GPT and interactions with executive leadership.
  • Significant expertise in drug development processes, specifically the design of development strategies that incorporate regulatory, commercial, and external insights.
  • Strong business acumen, with credibility among key opinion leaders, payers, and scientific communities, with specific and relevant therapy area expertise.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills at high levels with both internal and external stakeholders, simplifying complexity to drive performance and decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating teams within a highly matrixed environment, ensuring high team effectiveness through collaboration, influence, and coaching.
Desirable for the role
  • PhD and/or MD degree preferred

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $251,610.40 - $377,415.60 USD. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentivesโ€”an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
