What is a franchise development manager?

A Franchise Development Manager is a professional responsible for expanding a company's franchise network. They identify and recruit potential franchisees, guide them through the application and onboarding process, and ensure compliance with company standards. Their role often includes market analysis, relationship building, and supporting franchisees as they establish new locations. Franchise Development Managers play a crucial role in driving business growth and maintaining brand consistency across all franchise operations.

What does a franchise development manager do?

A franchise development manager works for a franchise company, seeks out prospective franchise owners, and lays the groundwork for completing a contract with a new franchise owner. Your duties and responsibilities are to collaborate with the sales and marketing departments of your business and identify growth strategies, plans, and goals for increasing the number of franchises in a region or district. You then carry out those strategies, recruiting candidates to become new franchise owners and negotiating a contract. You also inform new franchise owners on contractual agreements, sales expectations, and branding.

What skills are needed to become a franchise development manager?

To thrive as a Franchise Development Manager, you need expertise in sales, market analysis, and business development, often backed by a degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, franchise management systems, and industry regulations is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and strategic thinking set top performers apart in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial for identifying, recruiting, and supporting successful franchise partners, driving growth for the organization.

What are some common challenges faced by franchise development managers when expanding into new markets?

Franchise Development Managers often encounter challenges such as identifying suitable franchisees, navigating local regulations, and ensuring brand consistency across diverse locations. Entering a new market also requires thorough research to understand local consumer preferences and competitive landscapes. Building relationships with local stakeholders and adapting the franchise model to comply with regional requirements are key parts of the role, making flexibility and strong communication essential skills.

Restaurant Asst Manager - Local Owned Multi Unit Franchise with Growth Opportunity!

Dog Haus Biergarten

Phoenix, AZ โ€ข On-site

Job description

Dog Haus Biergarten — Assistant General Manager

Dog Haus Biergarten isn't your average restaurant gig. We serve gourmet hot dogs, elevated sausages, burgers, chicken, and plant-based options alongside our renowned Bad-Ass Breakfast Burrito concept — all backed by a full bar featuring Haus cocktails and craft beer in a Biergarten environment. We take the operation behind it just as seriously as the food in front of it.

We're a locally and family-owned multi-unit franchise group growing in the Valley, and we're looking for an Assistant General Manager who is ready to run a real operation — not learn what management is. If you're coming from a GM role in a fast food or QSR concept and want to step into something with more complexity, or you've built serious AGM experience and are ready to take on more, this role was written for you.

Dog Haus has been named to Fast Casual's Top 10 Movers and Shakers list since 2020 and is a Franchise Times Top Brand to Buy. Our Arizona franchise group has earned Operator of the Year, Marketer of the Year, and Business Leader of the Year recognition — and we're just getting started in the Valley.

What you'll own

You'll operate alongside your GM with full visibility from our District Manager — running the shift, leading the team, and owning your areas of the business day to day. That means:

  • BOH and FOH operations — you're present, not just supervising
  • Scheduling, labor management, and shift execution
  • Recruiting, training, and developing your team
  • Inventory management and ordering support
  • Health, safety, and compliance standards
  • Customer experience and guest recovery
  • Supporting P&L awareness and operational performance

What we offer

  • $48,000 – $60,000+ annually, commensurate with experience
  • Structured schedule: five tens — while most restaurant managers are grinding 65+ hour weeks, our AGMs work a structured schedule with real days off. But make no mistake, this is a floor-level leadership role. You're in it daily, running shifts and developing your team in real time.
  • You'll be present and hands-on the majority of your shift — this isn't a back-office role. You lead from the floor, build your team through daily reps, and own the operation while you're on.
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off — and we actually mean it. We have high standards and we expect a lot, but we believe in giving our team the tools, support, and rest they need to perform at that level long-term. Burning people out isn't a strategy.
  • We promote from within. We don't hire strong AGMs to keep them AGMs — we hire people who are built for more and invest in getting them there.
  • Direct working relationship with your GM and visibility to our District Manager — and ownership that has actually worked in restaurants. When you have a problem, the people above you have lived it.

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience as a GM or senior AGM in a high-volume restaurant environment
  • Strong BOH and FOH operational knowledge
  • Leadership and team development track record — you've built teams, not just managed shifts
  • Comfort with scheduling, labor, and operational metrics
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • This is a floor-level leadership role, and the floor runs hardest at nights and on weekends. That's where you'll be — and if you're the right candidate, that's where you want to be.

Bonus points if you bring:

  • Experience with third-party delivery platforms
  • Bar management or craft beer knowledge
  • Local area marketing or social media experience
  • New restaurant opening experience

Join #TheAbsoluteWurst team. It's a real job, a real culture, and a real opportunity to grow with a brand — and a franchise group — that's just getting started in the Valley.

Dog Haus is a craft casual hot dog concept known for its gourmet hot dogs, sausages, burgers and one Bad Mutha Clucka. Founded by longtime friends Hagop Giragossian, Quasim Riaz and André Vener, the first Dog Haus opened in Pasadena, California in 2010. Dog Haus has garnered critical acclaim for its signature all beef dogs and hand-crafted sausages with no added nitrates, 100% Black Angus beef burgers, and a fried chicken sandwich – all of which are made with hormone- and antibiotic-free meat and served on grilled King’s Hawaiian rolls. With the brand’s mission to sustainably feed everyone who walks through their doors, Dog Haus also offers plant-based burger and sausage proteins. To chase it down, guests can select craft beers from a tap list emphasizing local favorites or any of our specialty Haus Cocktails and finish their meals on a sweet note with premium shakes. As a brand who gives back, Dog Haus established an ongoing partnership with No Kid Hungry to help end childhood hunger. Dog Haus currently has 40+ locations nationwide, and 20+ in development.
This is a locally/family owned and operated location with expansion plans in the East Valley. For up-to-date location and brand information, visit doghaus.com or find us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram @DogHausDogs or our local IG's @doghaus_santanvillage or @doghaus_chandler
