Job description

The Extrusion Operator performs tasks such as saw operation, machining and CNC operations to cut raw material per order specifications. They also are responsible for washing bars to maintain 80/20 standards of quality. The Extrusion Operator is required to quality control all materials cut to ensure they are within acceptable variances before materials progress to next work station. Set up checks are required to guarantee accuracy with each machining specification. This position calls for the ability to handle vastly diverse order needs and meet each order's needs consistently. Must have customer orientated mentality and dedication to quality. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Follow all start up procedures at start of shift
  • Use order tracking software to accurately process orders from start to pushing order to next appropriate workstation according to department flow needs
  • Have working knowledge of cutting, milling, drilling, tapping, finishing and de-burring machines to meet needs of production
  • Use and read a tape measurer and calipers along with a calculator and copy machine to successfully complete each order
  • Quality control orders with high precision to guarantee 80/20's standards
  • Follow re-cut parts throughout the department to manage re-cutting process
  • Attend meetings when required and provide improvement suggestions
  • Contribute daily feedback to appropriate staff members when appropriate
  • Follow proper shutdown and cleanup procedures at the end of each shift
  • Will be required to wash bars during training period and when deemed necessary to aid with production needs
  • Navigating on a computer in a timely manner to complete orders in appropriate software applications
  • Interacts and problem solves with team members on issues related to Extrusion Processing and order completion
  • All additional duties as needed

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic to advanced math skills to solve problems, convert measurements from Metric to Fractional, etc.
  • Willingness to demonstrate growth mindset to participate in 80/20's cross training program
  • Desire to take the initiative with problem solving, multitasking and independent work
  • Ability to communicate problems, suggestions, and needs in a concise, clear and effective manner
  • Possess a great, positive attitude that aligns with 80/20's Culture values
  • Can comprehend blueprints, extrapolate the needs of the drawing and make successful cuts and holes for the customer's order
  • Must be able to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to 40 lbs. on a continuous basis for an 10-hour work day

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Able to work with minimum supervision in a fast paced production environment
  • 1 or more years of experience with using metal and plastic cutting equipment
  • 1 or more years of experience with quality control specifically concerning the cosmetics of smooth aluminum bars
  • Experience using a computer and basic software applications
