Senior Data Architect Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Data Architect to help define and execute the future vision of its enterprise data platform. This is a highly visible role responsible for assessing the current data environment, developing a future-state architecture strategy, and guiding the modernization of the organization’s data ecosystem.

The ideal candidate brings a combination of strategic thinking and hands‑on technical expertise, with experience designing scalable enterprise data architectures, evaluating modern data platforms, and partnering closely with business and technology leaders.

Responsibilities
  • Assess the current data ecosystem, including SQL Server, Snowflake, and supporting Microsoft technologies, identifying strengths, technical debt, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop and present a strategic roadmap for the future‑state data architecture, including platform recommendations, tooling, and modernization initiatives.
  • Design scalable, secure, and well‑governed data architectures supporting transactional systems, data warehouses/lakehouses, analytics, and reporting.
  • Establish enterprise standards for data modeling, integration patterns, and architecture best practices.
  • Partner with engineering, analytics, product, and business stakeholders to align technology decisions with organizational objectives.
  • Evaluate modern data technologies, including ETL/ELT platforms, orchestration tools, data governance solutions, and metadata management capabilities.
  • Lead data modernization and migration initiatives while balancing current‑state operational needs with long‑term architectural goals.
  • Define and promote best practices for data governance, security, access management, data quality, and master data management.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineers and analytics teams.
Qualifications
  • 8‑12 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise‑scale data platforms and architecture roadmaps.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft data technologies, including SQL Server and related tools (SSIS, SSAS, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, or similar).
  • Experience working with Snowflake in enterprise environments.
  • Proven ability to assess existing data environments and develop actionable modernization strategies.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling methodologies, data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT design, and modern lakehouse architectures.
  • Experience with cloud‑based data platforms, preferably Azure.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, compliance, and enterprise data management best practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with practical implementation considerations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within healthcare or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA or similar regulatory environments.
  • Experience supporting medical device, healthcare, or hospital technology environments.
