What does a footwear developer do when working remotely?

A remote Footwear Developer is responsible for designing, prototyping, and refining footwear products from concept to final production, collaborating with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams through digital tools. They use software for 3D modeling and communicate virtually to review samples, provide technical specifications, and ensure product quality. Working remotely, they leverage video calls, cloud-based platforms, and digital workflows to manage the development process and maintain close collaboration across global teams.

How does a footwear developer effectively collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams?

Remote Footwear Developers typically use digital collaboration tools to stay connected with cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, and production managers. Regular video meetings, shared digital workspaces, and cloud-based project management systems are common, enabling team members to review prototypes, provide feedback, and track progress efficiently. While working remotely presents challenges such as time zone differences and limited hands-on material testing, consistent communication and clear documentation help ensure that the development process runs smoothly. Building strong virtual relationships and proactively addressing potential issues are key to success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a footwear developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Footwear Developer (Remote), you need expertise in footwear design, material selection, pattern making, and product development processes, often supported by a degree in industrial design or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, 3D modeling tools, and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems is typically required. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with global teams and suppliers. These abilities ensure high-quality, innovative footwear products are delivered on time and meet both aesthetic and functional standards.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, collaborating with stakeholders, and turning data into actionable insights. If you're passionate about data architecture, business intelligence, and helping others leverage data more effectively, this could be a great opportunity to grow your career while influencing decisions across a dynamic retail organization.
This position is open to remote candidates within the continental United States.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead Enterprise BI Solutions
  • Design, develop, and maintain Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) metadata objects, including schemas, cubes, attributes, hierarchies, metrics, prompts, filters, consolidations, and custom groups.

  • Provide guidance, training, and best practices that help teams leverage self-service analytics tools effectively.
  • Help promote a data-driven culture by ensuring users have access to trusted and meaningful insights.

Solve Complex Technical Challenges
  • Serve as the primary technical owner for user inquiries, production support incidents, and enhancement requests.
  • Triage, prioritize, estimate, and drive work through successful resolution while balancing competing business priorities.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot data, performance, and application issues across reporting, metadata, and platform components.

Ensure Stability and Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in production deployments, object migrations, and change management activities.
  • Contribute to an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, metadata architecture artifacts, schema designs, and knowledge management resources.

What You'll Need
Required Experience & Technical Skills
  • 7+ years of experience working with BI tools (MicroStrategy/Strategy), analytics platforms, data warehouses, or cloud-based analytics environments.
  • Experience translating business requirements into scalable BI solutions using semantic layers, metrics, attributes, hierarchies, and reporting structures within enterprise BI platforms such as Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy).
  • Advanced SQL expertise, including complex query development, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and large dataset analysis within cloud data warehouse environments.
  • Experience working with cloud-based analytics ecosystems, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience working with relational database management systems (RDBMS) and cloud data warehouse platforms.
  • Strong understanding of tables, joins, keys, relationships, views, and data structures that support reporting and analytics solutions.
